Dropping at processor Sat. for kill on Mon.?

Would the adrenaline not spike when they are slaughtered, regardless if they are calm an hour before hand? I've never been to a slaughter house so don't know if the handling of them prior to slaughter would just get them worked up regardless of how relaxed they were.

    Fencing Woods For Pasture?

woods offer a lot of protection in the winter (As far as Kansas winters go). Vegetation is more readily available and cold wind is blocked.

    A quandry

I think it depends if he wants to be there or not. If he is there cause he needs the money and its the only job he can get for a summer then I'd pay him like he were an employee and include board/meals and whatever else you would for nonfamily. If he likes being there then I doubt the pay...

You can also get a spray gun and spray the inseticide on her while she is eating grain. Wont have to be that close that way if she runs everytime you get close.

    1 yard of topsoil

6 tons is a good estimate. Found this online: "According to this document "NIST Handbook Specifications and Tolerances for Field Standard Weight Carts", at the US NIST, the average density of dirt is 120 lbs per cubic foot." If you use 120 lb/ ft^3 you end up with 6.3 tons.

    Red Green Show

Just curious but who else out there is/was a fan of the red green show? Had an uncle that always watched it and when we visited it was usually on it seemed like. E_b2xIEfj2Y I think its some humor any "Do-It-Yourselfer" can enjoy. "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least...

    Catching wild bull?

Had a similar story with my grandpa once. A guy down the road sold most of his cows but could never catch a bull calf that just grew into one wild as hell/killer bull. He still had a few cattle in the pasture so the guy called my grandpa and me and him went down and brought all the cattle up...

    School's

I guess I'm in the minority because I strongly disagree that schools are slacking or have been watering down material. When I graduated high school I had already completed my first semester of college calculus. I'm about to graduate from A&M next semester and have had the opportunity of really...

    De-Horning ?

That's solid advice with the baler twine. We do the same thing. It pinches the vein and eases the bleeding, just wrap it around a few times and tie it off. Few days later use a pocket knife and just cut the twine real fast. No hassle.

    new to raising cattle

Someone else will have more information than me. But I don't understand why you'd want to sell cows, and then buy more cows just to fatten. I've only been around cow/calf but what you are trying to do sounds to me like stocker calves where you'd want to buy 3 & 4 wt heifers and steers and...

    new to raising cattle

Not necessarily. As kill cows they can get docked for being too fat. The buyers want something that they can fatten up on their own dime in a feed lot rather than buy an overweight cow from you. So there is an ideal weight for your investimate in grain where your gain diminishes. I believe...

    What's your weather?

Its tough on us southerners though. When we wake up we hace to decide if we should wear a jacket or jsut wear some long sleeves ;-) . I was at a food drive today and we were sorting food in a semi trailer and the guy next to be had lost his jacket and just had short sleeves. Though it was...

Need a math wizard - how many gallons?

540 is right (A little over 540 can be held) Here is your math: Volume of Cylinder = Area of Base * Height = pi*r^2*h =3.14* (47/12)^2 * (72/12) =72.289 cubic feet a cubit foot has 7.4805 gal so multiply that by 72.289 and you get a little over 540 gallons.
