tightening up some barb wire fence

If it were me i would just run one single strand of high tensil on inside of existing barb wire and be done with it. The old barb wire would serve as a good blind, but the one strand high tensil would keep them from getting ideas. --Jeff

    Warm season legumes.

Explain why you veiw that a bad thing. I would think that having the millet mixed in would not hurt hay quality and would add variety to the hay.

    Hay String

I have found that utility knife works well for cutting twine. The ones I use have a spring loaded retraction, keep one in tractor, one in truck and one usually on my in my side pocket. When blade gets dull, just open it up and change the blade. Replacement blades are real cheap too.

    Pinkeye plan for 2011

What I been thinking about doing is using IGR mineral, vacinating the cows for pinkeye in May while preg checking and then was thinking about buying the felt cover that distributes an insecticed to install on my bull master mineral feeders. Have any of you used the "Fly Killer Kover's" before?

    Pinkeye plan for 2011

Dun, have you much experience with IGR minerals, apparently you feel they work or you would not be using. I know my neighbor says they are not worth the money, but again I dont always beleive he knows what he is talking about either.

I know it is early in the year for a discussion on pinkeye, but would like to get a plan laid out for this year. I'm interested in hearing what others plan is this year to help reduce the chance of their cattle getting pinkeye. Last year was the worst I have ever seen, so not completely...

    F1 baldy cows

Quick question for the seasoned breeders on here. A young man the other day asked me a question that I was not comfortable in answering him. His question was this; he has a group of first generation herf/angus heifers and was wanting to know what the calves would be if bred back to a herf...

I notilled the gamma grass with a corn planter set on 30" rows. I got my stratified seed from Shepard Farms at Cliftonhill, MO; I just follwed Dan's reccomendations for planting. Did not graze the first year, cut for hay in August and then let it go until the next spring then burned it off...

    eastern gamma grass

I have some gamma grass that is going on its 7th year. Each year it gets better and better from a tonnage standpoint. I graze it only and dont cut it for hay; works very well for that. I really wish I had about 20 more acres of it. Usually start grazing first to middle of May and graze to...

    Bad year for pinkeye?

If you are having problem keeping the flys off the cows, my neighbor swears by sabre pour on. He said the cows will be completely fly free for a month or so. wont help with clearing up pinkeye but would certainly help keep it from spreading to others.

    Cargill w/altosid

With mineral I'd agree with you on this...The guarantees and ingredients don't leave them much leeway.......on their complete feeds??? Integrity went out the window long ago. dont have much experience with complete feeds and them. Just a thought, maybe its more of the difference between texas...

    Cargill w/altosid

I think Cargill has come out with a new mineral, at least in some places; called Cattle Grazier. It is a little less pricey than the Right Now minerals. That is all the info I can give you on it, but if the price of the Right Now mineral is out of your operating window you may want to ask your...

    Cargill w/altosid

I remember reading this post a while back and just now feel confident to add a comment. I have used Cargill Right Now minerals since they came out on about half of my cows the other half have been on a different popular mineral mix sold in Missouri ( two separate run herds at different...

We have 120 cows but they are broke up into 4 groups of 30 on 4 different farms. If we were to put a big bale of alfalfa out to each group into one of the hay rings with the other rings having fescue in them; what are the risks to the cows, if any? Dont want to make any of them sick because...

    Cedars in pasture

Thanks for all the replys, I like the idea of burning the pasture but have never done this in the past, so may try a small patch to test my skills at that. I do know that the local coop does handle "crossbow" this may be my best alternative. I'm on here and read weekly but very seldom ask or...

    "Bad" Batch of feed

What discussion have you had with your supplier and what has been their response? I agree that the feed quality you described is unacceptable but all business have issues, IMO it is how they respond to the situation that determines if they get the privledge of your biz again. I think it is...
