    Beef Coop Idea

In a longer time span, absolutely. Our local locker is supposed to get USDA certified this spring, and then ill be trying my hand at selling direct to consumers. If that goes well, and I need more than our personal herd, then yes absolutely. Was hoping to find a larger scale option sooner...

    Barzona Cattle

The hay ring is normal sized. I got down at their level for the pictures. Bull gained just over 2# per DOA, which isnt huge to Angus folks, but given the mature weight differences in breeds, its excellent. Have 3 bulls that met our standards this year, those will be the only ones for sale.

    Beef Coop Idea

Long story short, we raise a very unheard of breed that is medium framed, fairly efficient and grades well. We have only ever fed out our own cattle, never purchased. And its been 20 yrs since we used a feedlot. I need some serious knowledge and input to see if this "Beef Coop" idea of mine...

    Purebred questions from a newbie

Selecting for breed traits helps narrow down and make things more pure. The only true known mix is the very first F1. Everything is 50/50. Every cross after that gets completely random, so even though your law of averages says 75% your actual genetic expression can vary from 100% one way to...

    Calving Record

We have a calving book in the tagging kit and i also have an Excel Spreadsheet set with formulas to calculate stats automatically, carry calf information to a weaning page where i reorganize them in numerical order for simplicity when we work em, each pasture has a page so things are easy to...

    Selling Seedstock

I just started using a BW tape at the pastern to at least estimate it on a few nocer cows that dont mind me messing with em. I think its even too high because Barzonas are narrower framed at birth than an Angus or Simm, so if the tape gave me a 70# in reality we are closer to 60#. We do have...

    Selling Seedstock

Feed costs are tricky cuz we raise all our own corn and hay. Ive tried to make a little headway in calculating feed costs with the fats, but its hard to keep a daily tally of everything we put through the grinder, roller, and free choice hay. I will say if Barzonas and Herefords are in the...

    Selling Seedstock

Barzonas are medium sized beef cattle made for performance. Very maternal based, efficient and easy to care for. They range stocks and rough ground way better than other breeds. DNA test higher in RFI than any other breed in Igenity database. Calving ease due to shape and small BW.

    Selling Seedstock

Barzona cattle. Had our herd since 1989. I am planning on trying to sell more private beef but until our locker gets USDA Certified, i can only do halves and quarters.

    Selling Seedstock

Young farmer here, trying to gain ground in our operation. We have a little known breed with not much demand. What characteristics do you look for in seedstock? Heifers and bulls. Are you against buying yearlings, esp heifers? Are longevity and efficiency even sought after anymore? What...

What breed or mix is this?

    Barzona Cattle

Bird dog, do you remember the name of the breeder you got em from? And yes, MO-rum, i enjoy having visitors come to the farm so feel free to stop by. We have shipped bulls up to the Arctic circle in Canada, they do cold weather too. They develop a little different body style than the southern...

    Barzona

I got a little lost in all the discussion there about Bos Indicus. Our Barzona cattle, hand fed ground ear corn and rolled corn grade above average at Omaha Pack. (last year 16% prime) 1100-1200# carcass weights, yield anywhere from 61-64% (i think 63% is the goal for live weight sales) and...

    Barzona cattle

Barzonas were developed exclusively on stats. They either made the grades, or were culled. Also developed mostly on the maternal side. Great, hard working cattle for sure.

    Barzona Cattle

We are in Iowa. The Gerrish name sounds familiar, but I am a generation younger than most of them. Makes me a bit out of the loop with names. Herd dispersals are killing off the breed, we are trying to find a way to rekindle some herds.
