I've had around a dozen calves off him in the last 10 years, used him sparingly due to limited availability. So take that into consideration as a small sample size. Pros: can really add power to a cow, especially if she's too fine. Makes good thick females without going too extreme on height. Or...

    Angus Maternal sires

I had a dozen Bruiser daughters born in '14 and '15, over half of them were batsh*t crazy when they calved. Anything off a cow that was a little protective seemed to be quite a bit worse.

    Mature cow weight by breed

Cargill in High River discounts above 950 on the grid and 1050 on a straight bid. If they need cattle bad enough that discount disappears. In April they discounted one that was 1/2 lb over 1050, end of May the biggest steer I sent was 1170, no discount.

    question about animal breeding: tribe

I have read that cows have greater genetic influence than bull due to mitochondrial DNA, the offspring get the same number of chromosomes from each parent but because of the size difference of egg and sperm, there is more genetic material received from the cow. I believe linebreeding is used to...

    Coleman Venture 403

I'd like to hear your perspective on his marbling and feed efficiency numbers. I don't agree with chasing marbling, but neither do I want to give it up since it is probably one of the biggest reasons Angus is where it is today.

    Linebreeding

Ask me in 20 years, I've been raising purebreds for just over that, and I'm still trying to learn. There's 2 main advantages to linebreeding. It concentrates the good genes and shows up the recessives. There's 2 main disadvantages. It concentrates the undesirable genes and slows the rate of...

Picking a replacement bull from your own herd.

#14 hands down. I don't like under 70lb bw on cows though. I like 37 too. If his dam is deep enough I wouldnt worry about flank depth at this point. A lot changes by weaning. I'd keep those 2 and see which developes the best. 36 looks like he isn't as square hipped? The udder would be the deal...

    Scrotal Circumference

Fwiw, my vet says he sees a lot of 40 cm plus yearlings that have subpar semen. Overfeeding between weaning and yearling can deposit fat in the scrotum which inflates the size but decreases fertility. He says best fertility is in the 35-40 range for yearlings.

    SAV Bruiser

The daughters off quiet cows are good, the ones off cows that are heads up seem to be worse yet than their cows. I have a couple that will try to kill you and shove their calves around bawling the whole time. I had to throw a bale feeder over a calf (with the tractor) to keep one from killing...

    Bruiser Daughters

I've got a number of bruiser daughters, and you got to really watch the udder suspension and the temperament. Treasure looks good on doc, but I would try to find out how he is on udders before using him on your heifers.
