Most of the time if you see a baby calf eating hay it is because they dont have anything else to eat or are not getting what they need.

    Out of Pasture

Hang in there things can change fast. I am in west tennessee and dealing with the same problems. Can you run them in a stalk field? Mine are in one now. I am feeding soy hull pellets too. I have fed them for several years and fed them one winter to cows to stretch hay. I fed about 3 pounds per...

    Minerals - What do u use/Cost?

This is my belief on mineral. I buy on nutritional content and try not to pay any attention to company but this is what I have found. You can look at the sources of the minerals on the tag and just because the sources and amounts look the same you wont always get the same results out of the...

    BVD or lepto??????

BVD can be a funny thing and sometimes hard to find. Just because you have healthy calves does not mean you do not have it. Also just because you have vacc. them does not mean you do not have Lepto. I vacc. twice a year for lepto. It seems to me that lepto is harder to be protected from...

    ivomec kills dung beetles?

You know I have heard that but dont know if I believe it. I used to see them all the time when I was very young and they vanished. They went missing before we started worming cows. When my dad was alive he never wormed cows but I started prolly 25 years ago but they were already gone then.

For me there is no better feed. I know alot of people that do the same thing and it works well. On the calves that are weaned I...

    Persistant BVD

BVD can effect the immune system and cause numerous problems. Once they have it they can sometimes come down with whatever is hottest in the area. It may look like one thing but be BVD as the real cause.

    Tubing calf

I agree with the rest. Nothing beats the cows milk and you will see improvement when it gets her milk if it hasnt been too long without colostrum.

    Lift the cow or Not?

This is where you learn patience. I had a cow stay down 3 weeks and get up. If the cow is changing sides she is doing good. If not you will need to roll her over or help her chnge sides. I am not big on lifting them. I think you can do more damage than good alot of times. She needs time to heal...
