School me on over seeding pasture

I'm in the other corner of Tennessee.........been restoring/reseeding the pastures here for the last 4-5 years......can't re-plant all that needs to be.....steepness/erosion issues.....but have worked in "diluting" the infected fescue to acceptable levels. The guy I rented to prior had several...

    Weed Wiper

I've Got a GrassWorks..........been mostly positive but it's a real "art" to getting thorough coverage....no matter which angles, trips, etc you use. And the pump to keep the roller just wet....but not too wet.....is a learning experience.

    Sludge as pasture fertilizer

About 20 years ago a friend of mine got a hefty contract with a county north of Memphis to take their residue and inject it a few inches.......my memory is fuzzy on what depth it really was.....across the fields and pasture land that they had various degrees of access to, via ownership and...

    Am I the only one?

I'm more than a bit skeptical about some of the "facts" and figures in this article.....and know very well that these government programs come with many many layers of bureaucracy.......and always a CYA attitude. I can only remember my father's stories and his implied warning about involvement...

    Cattle trailer floor

I'm also pretty diligent about using a pressure washer along the edges where the Rumber flooring rests on the metal brackets.........3/4 inch groove can hold a lot of residue

    Things I absolutely hate.....

At 74, I'm hardly a zealot but have been riding since I was a kid. Been blown and chased off the roads many a time by big "bubbas" showing off their muscle truck on steroids. My tire print from two wheels is 3/4 inch wide by 2 inches long......a tiny contact with the road. And yes.....I...

    Age?

One of my first Ag Econ classes mentioned how farmers purchased their inputs at retail....and sold their products at wholesale......and try to make up the difference on volume... So i suppose I took that nugget to heart. The practice definitely paid better in the long run. Currently a...

    Age?

74 a couple of months ago.......grew up on a small farm outside Memphis....(and Raleigh is close....now almost part of the expanding "hood).....my dad was 44 when I was born...(brother and sister came along later)....we raised everything on this little depression era farm....cotton, corn...

    Electric fence how to?

I'm grazing 12" alfalfa/orchardgrass/novel fescue now in West Tennessee. I'm using 1/2" wide polytape on step-in posts....(Gallagher is ok.....Herdsman brand very strong) The tape flutters in a light breeze for better visibility and with a hot solo charger, I limit graze about a 10'...
