    Torn hoof

One of our cows has a pretty good tear to her rear hoof. She’s been limping for a couple of days and today i was able to get close to her and snap a pic. No idea how this occurred. We are considering running her through the squeeze to get a better look. Depending on how deep the tear goes I was...

    Finishing steers on brewers grain

Has anyone finished steers on brewers grain? I’ve fed calves on BG for a while now but never finished them for freezer beef with it. I’ve always finished them on corn and sweat cob but am wondering if BG is ok to take them to the end? I’m wondering if the BG will give the meat a “bitter” flavor...

Taking to the butcher-day before or day of slaughter

Question about the mobile-do they haul off the offal or do they leave it at the slaughter site? Our ranch butcher takes whatever you don’t want. The only thing he does leave is the stomach contents. Hide, head, hooves, organs etc all goes with him unless you want it.

    Spent brewers grain safe?

Thanks,,, I’m really just trying to supplement our hay and also give the cows something different to eat. I’m thinking between the grain, forage hay and the pasture foraging they do they should maintain pretty good condition. My concern was for the cows that were bred and the grain affecting...

    Spent brewers grain safe?

Thank you for the responses. Sky, do you think 1,200-1,500 lbs per week is enough to make it worth it for 12 cow/calf pairs so 24 head total? Thanks again

    Spent brewers grain safe?

I’ve got a good resource for spent brewers grain from a local brewery. I’m wondering if it is safe to feed this grain to bred beef cows in their third trimester? I’m sure it’s good feed just not sure if it is safe for cows that are bred due to the fermentation? Thanks for your input

    Cleaning Stock Tanks

Yes have done it going on three years now and very pleased with the results. We put 50 “feeder” goldfish in each 600 gallon water troughs, both large plastic round tanks. The fish have done a good job of keeping the algae growth down. I still scoop the stuff off the top on occasion (during warm...

    Angus/Highland cross

This heifer calf was born Sept 1. We have two Highland cows that eat everything almost like a goat. That’s why we keep em around to keep the vegetation down and they seem to be good protection for the other angus cows with the horns they have. Have not had a problem with coyotes with them...

    Finisher?

Has anyone used Nutrena Nutrebeef to finish steers for slaughter? Looking for feedback on how it did for your beef. Steers are red angus and currently on grass. We plan to transition them slowly to grain with free range hay available 24/7 Sorry for the questions on finishing but I’m trying to do...
