    80 days... shoot'em up

They are all registered but he doesn't do much with it. He needs some scales for a start  This is the sire of his favourite bull (Lindsay Starbright S117) and it has a good grass fed index (top 10% in 2009), the progeny are doing well as far as growth and structure go. He died in 2007 but...

    80 days... shoot'em up

Still all Murray Grey. Dad was talking about getting a Limousin bull to cover some of them but hasn't yet, I think he'll AI some first. And yes the market has been black here for a while. The market is terrible as well, a number of factors have conspired to cause a real slump in prices.

    80 days... shoot'em up

He's a very nice looking bull calf, good broad head on him and an excellent rump.

I think a lot of people are wanting some rain. I went to the Armidale saleyards on thursday with my dad and it's the worst prices I think I've ever seen. A lot of them didn't look in too bad a condition so it doesn't look like forced sales but the market just seems flooded with cattle at the...

    Pinkeye

As far as I'm aware pinkeye is caused by bacteria in soil. Scratches to the eye from hay, grass seeds etc. let the bacteria into the eye.

    Ear tagging calves

Thanks everyone, I never thought of tagging them seeing which mother they went to afterwards. And Circlew you must have a great memory.

    Murray Greys

They do Keren. I like the Willalooka bloodlines and Monterey still have some of that. I think the frame sizes were around 6-7 for these ones. I can understand why they are going to bigger cattle to me it's going away from the strengths of the breed.

    Murray Greys

I agree with Keren, one of their biggest attributes is their temperament. I've seen them in the saleyards and their the calmest animals their. They were known as early maturing cattle that were ideal for vealers, but a lot of breeders have gone larger with them. Unfortunately they've lost a bit...

    Ear tagging calves

How do you keep track which mother they belong to?

    Ear tagging calves

He does tattoos when he when he vaccinates and rings them later on. I assume most people do the same with the eartags because it's hard to work out which is which when they're not with their mothers. Although he does leave some of them if the mother is a bit mad :).

    Ear tagging calves

Had a chat with my father a couple of weeks ago and he was wondering when other people ear tag their calves, in the first 24 hours or do people have another method? Just curiousity.

    Kiwi MG bull calf.

He's a really nice looking bull Waihou. I assume you own him but didn't breed him? I had a look at Gnoleda in the breed book and they have another bull with much higher ebv's than Zac, have you seen any other bulls by Gnoleda or used any semen from them?

    Kiwi MG bull calf.

He's very nice, a lot of length to him. Who's his sire?

    Free bull leasing !!

They look really good TF. Plenty of rump on that bull as well. I've never seen them before but they don't look too much different to straight MGs, just a bit hairier. It looks a lot like Armidale up there as well.

    Lowline Bull

You probably need to shave him as well so we can see what he looks like :D . I've got no idea about lowline but he looks fine and I hope he does well for you.

Jilleroo I don't have any cattle at the moment. My father has murray greys and with a bit of luck I'll be moving up there in a few months. He said I could have one of his agistments so maybe in a couple of years, a guy down the road has simmentals and I was thinking about buying some of those...

Yeah it is lovely in autumn. Winter is a bit chilly sometimes but I'd rather that than humid QLD summers :) It has been a great season in Armidale as well, I haven't seen it as good as it is for years even though the last few years haven't been bad either. I saw some photos a few pages ago and...
