I'm doing my part to help avoid global warming by giving my cows a daily dose of "beeno" and a stern lecture on how much gas they are emitting on a daily basis. On a serious note, when reputable scientists that oppose man made global warming are being canned and replaced with "appointed"...
I'm doing the small square bale routine for 26 head. Custom made a cart to pull hay from barn to gate. Feed silage, via 5 gallon buckets, once critters are eating, I can take they hay in and get it into the rings pretty quickly without them bothering me too much. Very labor intensive, but will...
We have a variety of fence around the place and all seems to do well for what they were put in place for. Some of the perimeter fence on the place is wood posts with 5 strands of HT wire (top 2 hot) and strand of barb on top. If you go the wood post route, you can substitue metal T post every...
Got pounded with rain Dec and early Jan, made everything very muddy and difficult. Finally got cold (normal) and the ground is freezing, so life is better. Gas was 1.80, now it's back to 2.18
I run a Case 830 narrow front end for haybine, baler, brush cutter, etc. Nice old tractor. Been there done that on the water pump going out. :( Glad to hear there are some old case guys out there besides me, everyone around here bleeds green.
Interesting disscussion. It's difficult not to jump in and defend the long hours and sacrifices made for us "hobby" guys to make a go of it, but one re-occuring theme keeps coming to mind when I think of the folks that I know that run small operations. They are the few folks that I can truely...
I don't believe msscamp was being rude, just looking for information to help you. Spend some time in the feed board searching for questions you have and you'll find enough information to get yourself going in the right direction. If you could supply some of the info msscamp was asking for, folks...
Do a search on distiller grain and there was was a link posted in one of the threads that was pretty informative. I believe it was from one of the midwest universities.
Have'nt heard too much about the vortec 350 gaskets, but the 3.4L chevy's are prone to bad gaskets, both head and intake. Not a question of if, but when it'll go.
Good grief, I've been selling small squares of alfalfa for $2.50-$3.00.
Sounds like I need to start shipping down there. It's that pesky supply and demand thing. Fuel cost would probably kill the profit thou.
Was at the sale barn here in northern Indiana on friday and good looking calves in the 300# to 400# range were averaging $1.20. Was'nt able to stick around to see how high the fats were going for.
Not cattle related, but figured someone here would know.
A freind at work asked if you can keep a butchered hog in the freezer up to two years. Seems a bit long to me, anyone every kept one that long and have it still good? Never kept any pork in the freezer longer than a year myself, so I can't...
Never a dull moment around our place, folks are probably just out working getting ready for winter. Things will probably pick up on the Q&A after the snow starts flying.
