A couple animals for you all to look at...

grandchaser & aussie- sorry, the pictures don't really do her justice, your comments make sense, but she is a purebred red angus and she will not have great expression in her hind end and will be more fine boned than other breeds. she doesn't run downhill, she's at an angle (blame it on my bad...

    Beef Judge

I agree with you on the hair thing. The only thing I don't get is this. (Happened a couple years ago, too old to show 4-H now) I have had the great luck of being able to put a red angus breeding heifer in a cooler for the summer (May to fair time). I bought her specifically for show, and paid a...

    Anyone use this bull?

Has anyone used Red Six Mile Sakic 832S? I've got some females that might match up with him and I'd like an outcross, but wanted to know if there is any cautions?

She looks about what ours look like. Nothing to be jumping up and down about, but will hopefully produce.

Here's a black bull for ya.

Right, and like I said, besides what the poster said about what they look for in cattle, who really knows what their "perfect" animal looks like? Anyone can criticize someone for what they say online, but unless you go to their operation and see their cattle, you can't really make a judgement...

    Beef Judge

I agree, I wish at the county fair level around here judges would pay more attention to some of the animals that aren't all fluffy. Sometimes, you can put a calf in a cooler from March to showtime and the calf still won't have anything, but you can tell they tried. But when it comes to...

Here's a black bull for ya.

I understand what Doc is getting at, but if they had several different pedigrees on the cows and few of the calves were kept, that sounds like something is up. All that genetic diversity should have produced something. But without going to someone's place, you can't determine what that...

    What would you do?

Had that happen. My contract to buyers is if the bull is injured or comes up sterile in the first year, they have the option of being reimbursed or get a new bull free the next year. I also send the papers on the collection proving he was ok with the contract, to make sure they can't say he was...

We used Anchor on some N Bar Emulation cows, calves came out so-so.

    Angus Hydro Calves?

Just because I used an AMC bull doesn't mean I'm chasing numbers. I breed for moderate sized, easy fleshing, maternal cows with stayability. Numbers do come into play though, especially when you're breeding bulls to sell.

    Angus Hydro Calves?

Robert- you're right. Inbreeding exposes the defects. I don't understand why semen distributors and/or breeders haven't been doing linebreeding tests, I hope now they will start. I've been digging up as much info as possible on this and have contacted the DVM studying this, Dr. Steffen. He...

    Angus Hydro Calves?

We don't line breed, but way back in pedigrees the cow and bull were related. We had already bred when the 1st AM reports came out, so we didn't have much choice. It's too bad all this stuff is popping up in the breed.

    Angus Hydro Calves?

It was born over a month ago, before the publication. Dad's gonna contact them and let them know the sire and dam and if we can find the body, we'll send a sample in.

The heifer relaxes her back after standing for a while. I was curious about her because she won reserve champ overall female at the state fair and the judge encouraged me to take her to national shows.

Angus sire that produces the best daughters

We really like O C C Emblazon 854E (and his sons') calves. They're smaller in frame size, but are super easy calving, and are extremely thick.

    Angus Hydro Calves?

We recently had an Angus cow have a hydro calf, she had a C-section. The head was as big as a basketball. She has GAR Precision 1680 in her pedigree. I read an article in the Angus journal about Hydro and Fawn syndrome, and they want breeders to submit findings like this. Have any of you had...
