I may be off here, but when I see a bull going for $100,000, I always feel there is what I call a swap out. I send someone to your sale, and you send someone to mine and we will work it out later...........One big breeder comes to the sale or people are placed to make that one really big sale for the people to see the value of their bulls. Keeps the price up, they hope. Then you see the bulls listed as top selling bull at such and such sale for the price in semen catalogs. But you never see that bull pop up again in any breeding pedigrees. I always look at the pedigrees of the bulls or cows that I purchased. When I am at the sale, the high bidders are going fast. Like 20 bid all at once and the flurry is over. I wonder often if those bidders are actually there. Maybe the ring man is pointing to a post behind the crowd to keep it "real." So may "YEP's" and I don't see how they can keep up with it. Often when I would bid on a bull, the ring man does not see my hand and you have to yell.
The bulls that they are bidding on are fat and short legged. They seem to struggle a lot to walk. I want my bull to be able to cover ground. I don't want replacements to have those real short legs either. It is tough on a bull with no legs to cover cows that are in a large acreage. His athletic ability is low. He can barely move around in the pen at the sale. And hope his pecking device is closer up to his front legs so he can reach the cows.
I do want a thick full bull, but not a fat Weenie dog.
Just my thoughts.
