Pretty common in the sales I'm seeing. Although I still see some critters selling that should be steers. What's the old adage -- pay what 5ish calves are worth?
I'm convinced that more and more sales are selling 18 month and 2 year old bulls because they look so much better on the video auctions. When I was a kid 2 year olds were last years left overs and they sold at a discount.

Where I work we raise fall and winter calves. Bull sale is next Tuesday. Those fall born 18 month old bulls can cover so many more cows than a yearling. Guys really like them.

Yes it was. He holds the sale at his ranch.
In our area when I was a kid all bulls sold were 2 y/o’s. A few yearlings sold at the shows. Otherwise all were marketed as 2’s. Now the majority are sold as yearlings. Where 2 years are sold they sell well.

SAV AMERICA highest priced angus bull in history
Went and looked Friday at the bulls at a breeder whose genetics I have used. His bulls IMO were too fat. Their brisket indicated they were ready for the show list at a feed yard. The 18 month bulls averaged $12,900.00. The yearlings averaged $10,270.00. I didn’t bid because of them being so fat. They say fat is the prettiest color in the world on horses and cattle.
Trying to buy 1-2 females. Will bid at a few sales this week.

One of the local breeders sold last week. He has both Hereford and Angus. More Herefords as they have been in the Hereford business for years. The Angus were just added 4 or 5 years ago. Pretty well bred string of 2 year old horses too.

Looks like the price of yearling bulls is high enough that its loosing money to keep them to two year olds.
