Final update-picked up the final cuts. We ended up grinding most of the HQ rather than getting bone-in roasts or other cuts, so final dressout % ended up at 61% (not great, but he wasn’t pushed hard on feed, either). I did save an extra 60 lb of fat and bones for a neighbor with dogs, so that was an extra $80 of carcass value added. Our processor makes cuts such as flat iron (pictured as the well marbled boneless cut-my favorite cut!) and chuck eye, so we lose some of the chuck “roast”weight also.
Overall for a $500 Beltie, on about $400 of feed and $1.10/lb for extensive cuts processing, I’m going to have about $1700 cleared.
This was a great grass year. I bought after and processed before hay time.
His dairy cross partner is still here and will have a higher feed input, hope he’ll go next spring or early summer.
