I got ya. I've never worried about the heat and noise complaints on atvs or utvs. They say they same about my mule pro but I have never noticed it.
I still have a bitter taste in my mouth from my last Honda transmission experience.

The wife has an 02 Honda Rancher with the foot shift. It has been rode hard and put up wet. And it still runs like a clock. I bought mine during Covid. At that time they were next to impossible to find. This electric shift was the only Honda Rancher I could find in eastern Oregon so that is what I bought. The foot shift ones are about as close to bullet proof as you can find.
When we start the water down the irrigation ditch every spring everyone shows up. 8-10 quads parked in my field. From brand new to ancient, every one is a Honda Rancher.

Some of them have that silly DCT thing. Really has no business being in a SXS, they're worse than a belt in terms of heating up and failing when even slightly abused. Ford tried and failed miserably to use that technology in their cars, to my knowledge VW is the only manufacturer that was able to make it work somewhat dependably.
The one with an automotive style automatic seems like a good design. It's pretty hard to hurt a torque converter.
I have had three Honda Fourtrax 300 s which all I bought used and all has the mechanical foot shifter (no electronic shifter), and all were trouble free. One was like new, and I wish I still had it, but sold it to pay on my house several years ago. I wish you could buy these new.

Might look at a Polaris with the belt drive, manual high/low/reverse, so nothing foot controlled.
I love Honda dirt bikes, but hate their quads. Stupid weird stuff to go into reverse, electronics, etc. I've had good luck with my old Yamaha Big Bear 350's. I've had a couple transmission failures but they were abused hard, had god knows how many miles on them, and I never paid over $500 for one. They're all over the country up here

Often I'd have the quad and the trailer loaded.. they're what never complained about starting at -20

I have a 2000 Rancher, it has been very reliable. It is hard to find new ones with the foot shift. The dealerships here say they get what
the manufacture sends them. They don't seem to be able to or are not willing to order the ones with the foot shift.
My problems with the shift models is they just aren’t conducive to what I use a quad for. Lots of variations in speed over rough terrain. Having my foot hanging down while try to wander thru the bushes and constantly trying to find the right gear, no thanks. First time you have a pretty good size stick get flipped up by a front tire and either push your foot off the peg or run up the front of your pants leg you will know what I mean. I will take my full floor boards and CVT any day, especially when they come on machines that are every bit as reliable.
I have a ms Rancher 350 and have had a couple on and off. They are reliable but should be considered a torture device. They are rough as all get out. My son and other people drive mine, I don't hardly mess with it. The all time 4wd is rough also.
My brother has a Prairie 360 with cvt. I will take it. It has cvt, selectable 4wd and rides way smoother. The power is a lot better also.
I use to have a BF 650 and it drove like a dream. The added weight of the larger size and the additional power made it really nice to drive. Very smooth.

I was at the dealer on Saturday. All they had was foot shifts. Talked to my mechanic this morning. He said I am the only one of his rancher customers with the electric shift. And that would be a lot of ranchers and ranches.
Been a long time since they just had foot pegs. It is basically a full floor board from the fender back.

We have one at work. We beat it to death. Pretty much bomb proof.
I'm talking about this thing was full on blower mode on high coming out from under the dash right on you. and a hot heat. not very pleasant here in the summer and i doubt much in texas. (not a hvac model just a standard open)

I bought a new pioneer 1000 in 2018 and have had it ever since. All I have ever done is changed the oil and it has never had an issue.
As far as heat goes, if you have a windshield and it is shut and you are working it there will be some heat that comes in from behind the seat. That is where the motor is. You are kind of sitting on the motor with these things and I think that is true across most brands.
I have found if you have the windshield open and have air flowing through that the heat is not a problem. I like in the winter I can shut the windshield and get a little heat.
I am not aware of a honda pioneer that has a true hvac system. Now if I was to get another sxs I would probably look to another brand that did have heat and air because I’m soft. Lol. But as far as reliability, the pioneer has been solid.

It's funny you bring that up but I am actually considering a cab with hvac. I didn't think about the Pioneer not having one.
My deal on the cab is we go from hot to cold. I'm getting more tired off all rhe dust and dirt and ticks and stiff like that getting on me and all my stuff. We have ticks horrible right now. The grass is tall and burned up. It's dusty and when you go driving all that see and the ticks come right over the hood at you. I'm getting where more tools and guns and nice things and they would stay in better shape as would the inside of the sxs. With where we are headed with feeding the wcs out the trailer, hopefully from a sxs, the full cab would be nice.
That's my thinking at least.

We just got a Polaris Ranger with heat and air. Also comes with a rear camera. Haven’t used it much yet but so far I like it

There's a guy up the road that has been trying to sell one of those, cab and all, for a while now. A newer model (2022?) he claims was bought for his hunting cabin and never got used. Low miles and about 10K. I don't know enough about the brand to jump on it.

I have a 2022 1000cc. 15,000 km’s and so far only have done clutches (very recently). The dealer (primarily a Polaris dealer) told me that’s more than double what you’d expect from a ranger.
