    Char Cross Cow Value?

Whoa! I have had negative Birth weight EPD bulls used on well grown out high performing Hereford and Hereford red/black baldy heifers that were well manged by people that calved out a few hundred head yearly with no problems. We did not recommend they do this but they used the bull the previous...

    Double Muscled

That should be disruptive not double in the above post.

    Double Muscled

The University of Alberta had double muscled purebred Angus cattle in the mid 1960's before Limos were imported. I also remember seeing pictures of double muscled Angus in text books from the same period. This is not to say the bull pictured doesn't have some limo in him but it isn't a slam...

    Jersey/Gelbvieh

I responded because the guy wanted to know what the best bull ABS had to breed to a Jersey cow in order to get an acceptable beef animal regardless of breed. The average ABS bull is stacked for calving ease and Grid maker is the best bull they have to add growth and muscle. Jersey cows tend to...

    Jersey/Gelbvieh

As far as ABS bulls are concerned I would go with The Charolais bull Gridmaker. When I was kid I used to milk Jersey cows and the Charolais crossed on a Jersey always worked well enough to stick the Jersey Char cross in with the other Char cross calves at the auction market.

    Fleckvieh X Angus

Calving ease Fleck Bulls exist. They just aren't spread bulls. Check out Champs Bravo: http://www.semex.com/di/beef/i?lang=en& ... =&view=164

    Fleckvieh X Angus

UG, If people want Flecks their are plenty of Fleck and Fleck influenced bulls around. If they aren't in your area then travel to Western Canada. The big barrier for the use of Fleck cattle is roughly the same as for Full French Charolais: big birth weights and mediocre growth EPDs. Want to...

    Heat Tolerant Bulls

Jilleroo, Your post brings up an interesting question: perhaps the Senepol is not being used in combination with the right breeds. I have seen some of the Senepol Char cross bulls and they appear to be impressive; better than some half Char Charbray bulls I have seen. I would like to know if...

    Heat Tolerant Bulls

For the Australians: Have you any experience with the Belmont Red breed? This breed looks like it is one of the better Sanga based synthetic breeds. What has been you experience with them?

    Chianina Website with address

Every cow not matter how good she was in the past can develop problems that require culling. This cow is at that point. If you are progressing in your herd development you should have replacement heifers that are as good or better than her so you will gain in herd performance-not lose it by...

Agreed on the Maine cross cow. She is an obvious cull due to udder problems. Just what is the market you see for your cattle?

    Chianina Website with address

Nice to see something different. No one can accuse you of over pricing your bull calves at $ 1,500 each. I would add performance data and pictures on the bulls you are trying to sell (EPDs?). Also I would address the disposion issue as this is the biggest issue you have. I would also post...

    Black Charolais for terminal?

What colors are your Simmental and Limousin cross cows? The use of non traditional colored Charolais lets you manage the color of your calf crop better so you get more uniform colored bigger groups of calves come sale day so you make more money.

    Black Charolais for terminal?

Where the Black Charolais idea got started is that in Canada the Charolais is the establishment. There is not much room for market growth in the traditional white bull market. The breeders had some red factor cattle they were selling to people that wanted to preserve the buckskin color on char...

    Black Charolais for terminal?

Plenty of red and white cows get bred to Black Charolais bulls because they are trying to get some outcross. Most of the bulls used by purebred breeders are purebred now. The black bulls are not so popular that they are out selling the traditional cattle. Most of the black Charolais breeders...
