"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12
I'm not judging your faith, just make sure there are 3 in your relationship. You, your wife, and God. Made all the difference in mine.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention how this will effect "Hobby Farmers" and the grassfed beef industry. Let me start by saying I have no problem with either whatsoever. People have the right to eat whatever they want and can afford. You may be saying "this could be good for me. With feedlots out...
WHOOAAAA! I very rarely say anything on these boards but this gets my blood boiling. Do your research on ASPCA. Hands down they are better and more resonable than HSUS but these folks have their agenda against agriculture too. Don't look at the main webpage. Keep going deeper and deeper...
I understand the way your looking at it and respect that. I'm in this business everyday, I've done my time, worked my way to where I am, and now I crunch numbers everyday on what will pay the bills and put a little money in my pocket. It just ain't going to happen if I didn't have these...
Thanks for the translations.
We employ about 25 mexican men here on the farm. However, I've never had one that worked specifically with the cattle because the cattle operation is a very small part of our operation. Some speak better English than others, some speak no English at all. Everyone...
I've hired on a mexican man to help some. He is extremely good with cattle. Probally has more experience and knowledge than I do. We have somewhat of a communication barrier though. Can anyone translate some common ranch terms
Cow - Vaca
Bull - Toro
Calf/Calves - ?
Heifer - ?
Steer - ...
good point with the different ages.
I was going to buy 3-4 15 month bulls and keep them for two breeding seasons before I sell them. But, you have a point with the different ages. I'll have to keep that in mind. Thanks
what do you think about running multiple bulls with a herd? I've always seperated cows into 30-40 cow herds and placed a bull with each, but it would be so much easier and I could rotate pastures better to run one herd. I would figure I would need to run 3 bulls, maybe 4 if they are younger...
Can anyone help me find information on operating a utility vehicle on NC roads. I know atv's are illegal, but mine would be strictly agricultural use. Going from one pasture or farm to another. It would be nice to not load and unload it to go 3-5 miles down the road to check cattle in another...
It was just wheat that we pulled out of the bins and cleaned. So no, it wasn't treated. I just don't know how much to give them. Would 3-5 pounds a day hurt anything if they have free choice good hay?
I've got about 160 bushels of wheat in the 40 bushel bags that was left over from last year. The weevils got in pretty bad. Its not to the flour state yet but most of the seed has holes bored into it. Do you think it would be safe to mix into some feed? What all would you mix with it? I...
If I were going to use different syringes and needles for each animal, would there being anything wrong with me drawing up meds at the beginning of the day or the night before and putting them in a cooler chute-side. So they would be drawn up for less than 24 hrs.???
I know safety is an issue...
