    Corriente Cattle in Cold weather.

Old rodeo rider couple miles from me raises them for rodeo stock only has a few but never herd him complain about the cold. as for long hair versus short hair, a good straw pack and wind break and the " southern breeds " do well.

Need bull-Gert, Braunvieh or Red Angus

use whatever has the least problems with calving and is going to get you the best bang for your buck. we use Gerts quite a bit farther north than you are on herfs, angus and simms and so far no real calving problems. I find the gerts can take the hummidity and bugs better than most and they do...

What's the temp in your area?

Storm ripping across the prarries was -3 this morning supposed to get bellow -45 with the wind chill tonight and tomorow, nothing like a good old fasioned blizzard to let you know spring is a long way off.

worst that will happen is a touch too much Brahma influence in the calves but that will only hurt if the buyers don't like a lot of ear

I like using the Santa bulls for the simple fact of not having to worry about calving problems, nice small and lively calves they hit the ground running. Santa moms are the best as far as i'm concerned. lots of milk and high tight udders. Also there maternal instict is excellent. TK

We have run Black Angus bulls with our Santa herd, nice calves ears and sheath not a problem. Also we have bred Santa bulls to Herfords, Charlais, and Simental cows. I still like using the Santa bulls. PM me your e-mail adress and I will send you some pictures. TK

    Brahman beef?

Been selling grass finnished Gert beef now for 3 years off the farm and the customers keep comming back. Something about not being able to get the quality of cuts/taste/tenderness anywhere else. FYI a poor butcher will make any meat cut tough as shoe leather TK

    Shaver beefblend

As for breeders there is a big breeder just outside of Brandon Manitoba. Cicle H ranch I think. Boldcat my friend has a comercial herd of around 200. A mix of everything I help him in the fall with vaccinations ect and he has some nice calves off of those bulls. TK

    If you were the Judge.

This may be ay off, but isn't it the end result that you are looking for. What the animal grades at the packing plant. All the ribbons in the world do not mean a thing if when the hide comes off the packers don't like what they see. TK
