    So Long, My Old Friend

I will alway know him as Dun, the glue that held this forum together, the person that was not always so quick to judge, the voice of wisdom and experience. We communicated about 3 weeks ago. So quick can good people leave us. He will be missed.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good Scriptural gunslinging is fun as the various divisions of christian and other religious organization have proven, however, religion aside, any human being that values life usually considers the impact of their own behavior on...

Women changing...or not changing... their last name

Do what you feel comfortable with and the hell with what anyone else thinks. It's your life. If you and your significant other are comfortable with the choice, then go with it. Had an old lady (82) refer to my gal as " your friend ". At my age, I could care less how they want to refer to...

    stop naming your cows

All ours are registered so, they all get a name. I don't remember most of the names. Those sold for show are easy since they are qorked eceey day.

What's the best age to sell a show calf

This is pretty much what we did recently with two heifers and it worked out well. We did start them on feed much earlier though. Once we got halters on them we let them drag a lead around the corral for an hour or two. Did this twice a day for about a week and then moved to lead them twice a...

Looking at flat bed trailers which ones are the best for the $$

Have the PJ 25' with dovetail and ramps. It's been a good all around trailer but the load ramps are just to narrow to safely load wheeled equipment. Still have that trailer but picked up a new one by Ranch King that is 30', lower to the ground and has monster ramps. The large spring assisted...

    What's something you've done, 99% of us haven't?

Slept on the floor at Head Inn on Dumaine Street in the French Quarter in 1971. When my eyes adjusted to the dark there were many other bodies sleeping on that same floor. Vaguely recall seeing a very pregnant naked lady walking around in the dark but then again, there was a lot of smoke in...

Are 2 hot wires enough for a fence?

Deer are my main problem. Have a single strand of electric up high to keep bulls separated. When the deer jump the fence they hit that hot wire and roll it over onto the top of the high strand of barbed wire where it gets caught up. Always have to carry a couple of sticks in the Mule to...

    slip clutch or sheer pin

Not sure. Nuclear waste might work  . Not knocking the grass itself. It's just hard to cut with a run of the mill disc cutter. Krone is an excellent cutter but they cost a pretty penny.

    slip clutch or sheer pin

Yep, forgot about Krone. One of the best, if not the best disc cutter sold in Texas. People still cuss that bahia around here though. Do you have to slow down at all with the Krone?

    slip clutch or sheer pin

No aspirin needed any more than I need a 3 blade Vicon. Hauled two of them out your way recently. Fella uses them on Bahia as they are the only cutter that handles it. It's a trade off. Bahia will grow out of nothing but then you have to replace the Vicons about every 7 years.

Anyone used Nutrena Show Edge Feed?

We are using Sure Champ right now. $32.50 per 50 lbs. Feed 1 pound per day, per head, mixed in with regular feed. Paying $6.60 per 50 lbs for regular feed. So far they are developing nicely but time will tell. Since its difficult to predict genetic potential (if your starting a feed program...

    Barb wire magnetic forces

Those "children" will keep you on your toes! If they can get into something, they will. Tree limbs are a constant problem with any kind of fence. Glad you got them back!
