    County Fair Pictures

In response to your question about clipping and the hair color- I grew up showing limi cattle and red cattle are always a challenge to clip because of the change in color when you clip short. For clipping necks if we were going to peel them we would usually clip down with the grain using...

    RAIN!?!?!?

42acres, we're in the same situation here in central florida. The little and i mean little bit of spring growth we had is all gone and we're feeding hay now to some cattle. I had to move some pairs over to a pasture I had planned to cut for hay that still had some grass on it. All the larger...

    limi

Don't shy away from the Express cattle just because "some" of them are expensive. They really support the kids with their scholarship program. It is worth taking a look at. I think that when I was showing back in high school, they would give $500 in scholarship to the kids if they won at their...

    Wahl Switchblade Variable Speed Clipper

I haven't used the Wahl clippers or blades myself either so can't help on that one. I've always used the Andis small clippers and have no complants. I think they are called the AGC. I prefer the wide blades over the narrow square blades. A set of Andis Super Blocking blades are great for...

reserve grand champion heifer at state fair

That's funny, I think she's a bit older than six months. http://www.cattletoday.com/forum/about26002.html&highlight=. Maybe more like nine to ten months, unless that is a different heifer in one of your old posts. She's pretty tight gutted and not bold enough through the top...

    Ringworm and time of year?

With all the posts and people having ringworm problems, is there a relation between the time of the year and number of cases? I think i can remember somebody saying that the cold weather would also help to kill it off, but it seems like everybody including my self has had a few cases show up...

    Boyd on Target

We bred a few cows to on target last year and the calves were born late November. So far they are coming along great. no calving problems, birthweights in the 70's, and growing like weeds. I'm looking forward to see how they come out at weaning.

what do you think of my 2007 steer

Good lookin steer. Just a tip, once you get him set up touch him with the show stick in the middle of his loin and it'll drop that loin and make him look more level through the hip. Good luck and keep us posted on his progress.

    dehorning

We've had several calves that we had surgically dehorned and never had a problem with them not letting you touch their head. If you can get someone to do it surgically it'll look like they never even had horns and they wont grow back.

    Nuflor or Baytril?

I haven't used baytril before but have used nuflor for respiratory problems. Works great and you can give it in a one dose shot at 6cc/100 lbs. per the label.

    Open Range (Bull)

I would imagine that was the reason for using the 6I6. I worked at a sale back in December and a lot of the cattle were linebred EXT and EXT x 5175. They were the worst group of angus cattle i've ever dealt with. Needless to say the fences took a beating a couple of us were run down the lanes...

Bull Calf with only one Testicle

Anybody else ever seen this or heard of it? Was weighing a group of Angus bulls and taking scrotal measurements and reached up under to check one of them and he only had half of what he should've had.

    Nightmare

Had a weird dream once too. I was working at a ranch helping with their dispersal sale. We had penned almost all the cows the day before the sale for display in pens made out of electric tape. I was sleeping in the bunk house at the ranch that night and woke up middle of the night after dreaming...

    07 Steer Prospect

Yeah, i'd definitely have someone else clip him out the right way. 8)

Ideas for wooden feed bins for show barn

I've seen it setup with small bulk bins outside the barn and augers run through the wall into the feed room. You could turn on the auger and fill up a small bin inside and scoop out however much you needed for each feeding.
