    Mucous discharges

Thanks Dun. I have a cow that 6 months ago the vet said that she was not pregnant. Yesterday I saw discharge and wanted to know if it was just the mucus during estrus or if it was pre calving discharge. Sounds like there is no way to tell them apart and I will just have to wait and find out...

    Mucous discharges

Posted: Tue Jul 30, 2002 12:57 am by Vicki the Vet There are two different mucous discharges which you are lumping into the same category. #1 Thick slime, often yellowish in colour produced within the last 1-2 months pre calving, usually scant but can certainly slime the tail #2...

If you go here http://www.highlandcattlesociety.com/sale_averages.php It will give you all the sale averages for 2005. You can also do a data base search of all pedigree highlands that are registered with the society. Hope that helps Highland Girl

We also would never cut the hair on our highlands. They are a very hardy animal and yes God made them that way so why mess with perfection. If we had to cut the hair that would be a pain. There is enough to do with out having to give 13 highland cattle a hair cut. Highland Girl

    Highland Bull

Some people say to trim the hair others say to leave it alone as it protects the eyes. I say leave it alone because most times we can only get him backwards into the crush or if we manage to get him the right way round he ususally jumps straight out before we can get the head lock down...

He maybe looks slightly longer in the photo but he is long in the body. We will be selling him soon as his mother was related to some of the females in the fold. I would have loved it if he was halter trained as it makes them so much better to work with and we could have kept him for...

What Fruit and Veg can you feed your cattle?

I've been told cattle can eat Apples, Potatoes, Onions, Kiwifruit & Carrots. Does anyone here have any comments about feeding these? What else can cattle eat? Thanks Highland Girl
