As Promised- 2 year old Sitz Alliance 6595 son on pasture.

Nice looking bull. We have a Sitz Alliance 6595 son also and we have been very happy with him. Going to keep the heifers we got out of him this year. He's almost three and has a great personality and does his job well. We are going to let him cover this year and switch to AI, but we have been...

    canning

They still make pressure canners, I bought a new one last year. I bought the biggest one I could get my hands on, cost me over $100, but well worth it. Canning is a dieing art, no one I know cans like I do, and they all think I am crazy for it. But I like to do it and like to know where and what...

    canning

If you decide to can, invest in a pressure canner. Water bathing green beans takes for ever and you can only be sure they got hot enough to kill botulism by using a pressure canner. I put up 60 qts of green beans last year and the canner only takes about 3 hours total with cool down and the...

Sell as bull or meat? (photos)

Not sure I want to drive that far, plus we're going to complete AI. But if you would like, I will hold him for ya, after he covers my ladies :)

Sell as bull or meat? (photos)

dj, I am only running 6 cows right now, and hubby works so I am home to AI when I see heat. I would like to sell him as a cleanup bull to someone, as he has been a good herd bull for us. As for my AI percentage we shall see, dairy farm close too me has been teaching me in trade for milking help...

Sell as bull or meat? (photos)

All the calves averaged 79#. We run a very small herd of 6 cows, that's why we are going to AI. All the calves are gaining well and the steers look like little tanks. Heifers have nice feminine look to them. The bull has a good temperment, no problems, we just thought going to AI we could...

Sell as bull or meat? (photos)

This our herd bull that we will be selling this year. He is registered angus out of Sitz Alliance 6595. He has done a good job for us so far and we will be using him again this year and then switch to AI. I just wanted an opinion if he was worth selling as a herd bull to someone else, or if I...

    I'm Gone From Here

I am new to all this, and would be classified as a hobby farmer right now. But I want to learn, and even though I may keep a "calf in the house" when I need to :D I have found that when I need help I can always find it on here. I don't take anything personally, I mean it's not like I have to...

    Bloody discharge...and in pain....UPDATE

The cow is a big like I said, we have measured her and estimate her weight at close to 1700#. She dwarfs our bull and other cows. We have considered getting rid of her just for that reason, she is 61" high at the back, nice and long, but just a huge cow. So your right she probably had alot to...

    Bloody discharge...and in pain....UPDATE

Is there any reason that this could be happening? Our first calf this year was a 50# bull calf to a heifer, and the same thing happened. Is it odd to have two in one year do this? Is there something I need to have the vet check for (when I find a new one) ?

    Bloody discharge...and in pain....UPDATE

No we bought her when she was almost three and she was breed by our bull last year. She was a young girls pet at one time and they never bred her. I really don't want to ship her, she did finally deliver it alone. Hate to learn a lesson the hard way, but now we know what to look for now and Will...

    Bloody discharge...and in pain....UPDATE

Well things did not go well. I called the vet out, she got here at 10:00 am. We got the cow in the chute and she went nuts, had to let her out. We were working her back around to put her back in and the vet says she has another emergency call up the road from us and she can't wait. She LEFT ...

    Bloody discharge...and in pain....UPDATE

I have a heifer that was due 4/20, this morning I noticed she had some bloody discharge coming from her vulva. I have been watching her for two weeks and her udder is huge, but her vulva is not really swollen. I can never seem to catch them right before or when they calf, so is this bloody stuff...

    Our first heifer calf....pics

Mom is not the most cooperative cow. She is our problem child, everything is her way and in her own good time. She's not mean, not aggressive just a pure herd BRAT. If something happens around here, you can always bet she was right in the middle of it. And it seems like her calf is going to be...
