    Steer birth dates

AAOK is exactly right, although calves have been getting a little bit younger and doing well in Houston. For Fort Worth, you really need a big mature calf which requires a May-July calf to really have a chance to do well. Calves at Fort Worth are usually pulled back harder than others...

    Vaccination location for show cattle?

Standard protocol for all cattle intended for slaughter is to give all shots in the neck - whether IM or SQ. The whole point is to minimize damage to high value muscle. We often have to sign documents on loads of calves headed to the feedlot verifying that all shots have been in the neck. The...

To Dye or Not To Dye?

The answers posted here regarding legality of dyeing is correct. Most rules state you can't change color pattern. Not all, but most. I've used Sullivan's dye and it is probably a little better than Young Color II and significantly cheaper. It wears off very gradually - but will not "towel"...

    spastic paresis

SP is spastic paresis. The best thing to do is a search on the internet for it. I'm not an expert on it, but did have to learn about it when we came up with our first case. It's not a clear dominant/recessive genetic defect from what I understand, but there is a genetic disposition + an...

    spastic paresis

Unfortunately, spastic paresis isn't going to get better. The surgery might have helped a little, but if it helps in the long term it will be the first time I've ever heard of it really working. How old was your calf when he developed it and how long since you bought the calf. I'd be having a...

    Another New Steer

The Stephenville show is an extremely tough show for its size. Most of the folks that show up are fairly serious about showing and some very good calves are there. And the little hair balls bought this spring still have most of that hair. Its a long way from now to the majors. We were...

    Need Charolais & American Heifer

You should also call Dan Leddy in Cleburne for a Charolais.

    Clubby bull

Most of the "clubby" bulls you should be using work just fine for other aspects of the cattle industry. If you go to some of the bigger club calf breeding cattle sales (i.e. Kris Black's), you'll find plenty of bulls that will product show steers and can get around in the pasture for a long...

    feeding show steer?

Revalor is a growth implant approved for us in slaughter cattle. There is no withdrawal. You can find it at any local vet supply store and many feed stores. Revalor "S" is the strongest version out there. G is just smaller doses. I believe one S = 3 Gs. How did the vet know your calf was...

    Cheap Cattle

Decent calves at the sale barn are bringing $1.20/lb for 5-6 cwt right now.

    more muscle

Optaflexx (the actual drug in Paylean) and commercially available implants are approved for use in slaughter cattle and will not cause you to fail a drug test.

    Chiangus Heifer Calf

The calf's tail is normal length, but doesn't have much of a switch at all. We call it a "rat tail" and some calves are just born like that. It isn't a big deal.

    Chianina cattle photos please.

I'll give you an "A" for your persistence. I'm afraid your complaints will continue to fall on deaf ears on a U.S.-based board. You may not like it, but what we do works pretty good for us. I'll be surprised if you find any photos of fullblood Italian Chis at American shows. There used to be...

where can I but MGA supplement

If you are trying to synchronize a heifer, the most common program recommended and used now are CIDRs in conjuction with a shot of prostaglandin (i.e. lutalyse). If you are wanting to time breed, then GnRH (i.e. cystorellin) shots should be added.

where can I but MGA supplement

Why do you want it? You do realize there are faster, easier, and more effective ways to synchronize her?
