    Show heifers in production

I agree with you completely. You are right, gradually bringing them off feed is a big part of it.I only have a small herd of 25 head, but over half of them are old show cows and do fine and raise nice big calves. They are also holding their condition very well through the winter on hay and...

    Show heifers in production

These were two of my show heifers from my senior year of high school. The white face is a SimAngus and the solid black is a SalerXAngus Optimizer. This is them now, they will both be 4 years old in February and they are standing with their 3rd calves. The calf on the left is a F2 SimAngus out...

    SALER CATTLE

This is a Saler Optimizer I have. She is out of a purebred Angus I AI'd to Bouncer, the 04 NWSS Grand Champ Saler bull. She will be 4 in February and is due to have her third calf in January. She is very gentle, keeps in good condition and has settled first breeding each year.

    4H Balancer Heifer

I like her a lot, moderate, deep, thick and eye appealing. She looks like she has what it take to place well in shows and in the end make a good momma cow.

    SimAngus calves

Thanks, I am really happy with the cows this year. I couldn't ask for a better dog, I have had a couple aussies but she is by far the smartest and best behaved one I have had, she's just a little over a year old. Yes, I am planning on using him again as long as the calves grow good. So far they...

    SimAngus calves

I haven't been on here in awhile. I never really posted much, just took in alot of valuable information. I am currently a junior majoring in Animal Science with a minor in Soil and Water Science at UF. I am home for the holidays, so I decided I would post some pics of my cows and calves. Most of...

    In a field near me..

They kinda look like Gir or Gyr to me, especially the cow/calf pair. From the picture the bulls ears look a little short though. The breed is from India and was used in the development of the Brahman. I know a guy that has a few here in Florida, they are pretty cool looking.

    Range Cube Prices

At the feed store I work at Nutrena's all natural 16% and Purina 20% Southeast Cattle cubes with urea are $7.99 per bag for 50lbs. For the month of January they will both be $6.99.

    How are cuts made?

Officials put cuts on a class in a judging contest as a way to score the participants placings in the contest. 4/1 was a harder decision than 1/3, therefore the cut was less. The placing of 1/3 should have been more obvious, and therefore the higher cut. With the bottom pair you would only take...

Anybody tried to buy Levasole (of any kind) lately?

We have some at the "little podunk feedstore" I work at. I don't think we have the injectible but we have the sheep boluses and the powder, I want to say it is labeled for swine. Maybe I need to buy it all, sounds like it could be worth some money.

    New way to weigh cattle

I found this interesting, it was on our local news. The Bellamy Brothers run a Charolais herd and are trying out a new invention for weighing their cattle. I really can't see how it would really be accurate all the time, but even if it is I'm sure its to expensive for me. Their land buts up to...

    A cure for Funnel Butt

They look real good, definitely no funnel butts there. Are they A.I. calves or out of your herd bull?

    Heifer Pics

The first heifer is actually out of my oddball cow, she is yellow with a white face. All of the others are black or black white faced. Maybe I need some more of those type cows. I have one other smokey heifer calf this year and thats because a charolais bull jumped the fence. The second calf is...

    We Bred a Winner

Congratulations! That’s a nice steer, you can tell she put a lot of hard work into the care of the calf, and you did your part with the breeding and genetics. It's nice when all the hard work pays off.
