Vet come out and took a hair and skin sample. He said in twenty five years of practice he had never seen anything like it before. The end of the tails are scabs and a little swollen. He said it was a mite that horses get in their mane and tail. They focus on long hair. He recommended dipping the...
Noticed cows losing tail switch. Thought they where just pulling them out. Then a couple of them started showing hair loss on the tail and looked rat tailed about three inches from tip. Has anyone heard of or had dealings with cattle tail louse. If so how did you treat them?
Thanks for all the info. I sold steers today and they weighted 772 at 1.47. If you take 772 at 62 percent that's 479lbs hanging weight and to make a little more than market i would have to charge 2.50lb hanging weight. Am i figuring this right.
I was approached by some people last night. They wanted to buy a butcher beef and i have no idea how to charge. New to this process any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
I had thought about one day on and one off. Is one hour a day better? I have also thought about using electric fence to limit access so they couldn't just trample it.
When should i start grazing? I planted a mix of winter oats, barley, turnips and radishes on August 27. Do you wait til it reaches a certain height or wait so many days after planting? Do you wait til turnips get a big root?
Well yesterday was along day. It started at 5 when I noticed the heifer trying to push, but nothing was showing. Then by 6:30 nothing so I called the vet. When he got there he said her uterus was twisted, and that she had been trying for longer than I thought. She had dried out inside and he...
I put her and one other heifer in the barn last night. The bedding I isn't the greatest. I've looked for someone who has some small straw bales but they are hard to find.
I checked late last night and first thing this morning and still nothing. I am getting anxious. This will be the first calves since I bought my own cattle.
Heifer is getting close to calving. This afternoon she was walking a little and laid down for about 30 sec then back up and kicking at her side . Then went to hay and started eating like nothing was going on.
I am going to buy some young cows from my Mother. She lives in AR and I live in KS and I was looking at buying the cows this late summer or early fall. When would be the best time to move the cattle to get them adjusted for winter here? What all will i need to haul them from state to state?
