Trouble?

This that fat heavy with calf SimAngus cow I posted about a couple weeks or so ago.
Didn’t see her with the rest of the cows this morning, found her later standing looking about like this. Then gave it an hour an checked on her again, no change. She was back with the other cattle and laying down and got up.
Going down again shortly and try to get her up to the barn. I would have thought she’d have had the calf fast being bred to a CE bull unless there’s something going wrong which we’ll have to get her up to deal with. Not looking forward to trying to drive her as she’s not one our easiest cows to work with.

Well it it’s one of those things. Vet came and glad he did, it was breech and twins, first calf came out in pieces, both dead.
They flushed out the uterus and put in antibiotic blouses. Hopefully the cow will live and we’ll let the cow heal and get her gone in a couple months.

Hate to hear it. I had the exact same happen a few months ago. Cow recovered nicely at least.

I'm sorry for the loss of the calves. Were they full term?
Hopefully she heals up and gets out of withdrawal and you can get her shipped and recoup some of the costs.

Yes they appeared to be full term.

Sorry for your loss the same thing happened to me today.

Had a heifer today with the calf's left front leg not in the birth canal. The head and other leg was right. The hard part was getting her in the catching lot. Probably took me two hours to catch her as she would go everywhere but in the lot. The calf was small what you want for a 1st calf but was hug. I lined everything up and got it out pretty quick, but the calf was dead. The heifer seemed alright when I left her. She is a little small so now she can grow. I have 22 heifers to have calves starting around September, but they are bigger than this one. The bull does throw smaller calves, so I hope that continues.

They are often hard to get brought up when calving. This cow turned and ran back on us couldn’t stop her and navigate rough ground. On the second try we had the dog and helped get the other cattle moving and they grudgingly left the shade and went to the barn, the cow calving followed them but still had to keep pressure on her to keep her moving with them.

Sorry to hear the bad news. Don't sound like she would be easy to work with for a graft either. Unless ya have a hide saved.....

she’s not one I’d want to try to get a calf on. I move to slow for that these days.
She can be in the flighty side, and Simmental bull she is out of was on the fightin side. He didn’t stay around long.

So your concerns were justified when you posted the pics. The wide load was twins. I was really hoping for a single calf.

Yeah unfortunately. I reckon wasn’t concerned enough. I thought well big cow, calving ease bull, I see them every day. If I could run it back I’d a put her in barn lot back at that time.

Cow made it though the night. She was able to get up fairly easy, but looks rough. Hoping that she’ll hang on improve with time.
