Tractor Tire Chains

Looking for input on which style would be best.
I have a Ford 5000 with loader and 16.9-30 rear tires.
Last years frozen snow and thawed top soil made it spin sooner than I'd like. Also had some issues braking.
I know some will say 4WD but that isn't practical.
At most, they would be on the road at times for 3/4 mile one way.
Tires have fluid.

"Duo grip" style chains work pretty good in the slop while still being ok on the road.

Ladder bar chains just always seem to sink between the lugs of the ag tires for me.

I use ladder bar chains with the interlocking circles. They have served well in ice, snow and what little mud we get and they do well when cleaning pens with a foot of wet manure. They were cheap. Never went on pavement with them though.

Yeah, you want the ones that have a circle in the center of the tread tying two crossbars together, not just crossbars. Much better for traction and "ride" on the road. You won't want to be driving wide open in road gear with them. Put them on as tightly as you possibly can, do a little driving, and tighten them up again as tight as you can get them. I've only got about 2" of clearance to my fenders, so I can't have them flinging out from the tire at all. I avoid putting 'em on until I just can't get along without 'em.

Are the above better than double ring chains?

Double rings ride rougher in my experience expecially on the road. Also depending how much tread your tires have they fall between the lugs.

These are the ones I have on the old tractor. They seem to bite pretty well. The chain tighteners are mostly baling wire because the dang bungees always fall off. Not pretty but it works.

When needed I run duo grips on the front of my feeding tractor. Let the air outa the tire then tighten the chains and re-inflate. Run down the road at 18mph with them on when needed and it's a fairly smooth ride. No matter what happens the chains will always be on top of the lugs of the tires.

The Farmall 656 that I have was married to the feed wagon in its previous location. Cross pattern chains stayed on year round. Once they’re on for the winter it’s just easier to leave them on. They don’t wear much if they aren’t on pavement.

That pic was March 10, 2024 which was really dry. Chains were on from earlier in the winter and then we got the newer tractor so this one was still wearing its chains. That pen was kind of nasty til I piled it up.

That is what my Hubby had set up and he never took them off in 20yrs
So I am doing the same... Nothing here is flat.....

Heck here's my driveway video this morning after 9" of snow, The quad does the plowing..
Yes I couldn't shift with a camera in my left hand, but with the ice n snow eh it was ok...

Yes Lee Co. We haven't received enough to cover the steps on my porch this year.

And we got about 8 inches just this past Monday (yesterday).... the 4 inches last Friday mostly melted off...

I had to pick my son up in @farmerjan 's area several years ago. The Weather forecast was not good for that area and they explained on the radio that there is a "trough" in VA that is prone to getting extreme amounts of snow. That day they were calling for accumulations up to 12" I believe so, I was booking it out of there to beat the storm.

Yeah we got 5" last Friday,
We are at 17" for the season sofar ..
It's water I'll take it....
