To Tie or not to tie in the barn?

We have a new 4H heifer coming today and have seriously split opinions.
Our current girls are a year and only get tied while working. They stand fine for show but have never had to use a standing / Tie stall before.
Our new show girl coming in is about 6 months old and has never been tied for more than a short while.
The breeder was kind enough to pull her from the you youngster pen and tie her a few times for us.
My question is this, Should we let her free roam in a half size stall for a while to get used to us and just hanging out, or should we immediately get her tied up?
We turn out each day from 6 am to sundown, but she won't be ready to turn out for a week or two when I can fence train her.

I will be the first to tell you, that there are better people here to answer your question than me.
I would probably continue tieing her for short periods of time, a little longer each time. And put her in a small box stall in her "free" time.

I'd let her chill a couple days personally. Get used to you as a group. Let her bond.
I'm no pro!
Give her a few days and see how she does...
I had one I wanted halter broke for personal reasons. Took her right off mama and put her in an unfamiliar place and went right to work. I think that was my biggest mistake. Her attitude went from kool to kill!

I think I'd give her a day or 2 at least in a stall where you want to get her used to you, the feed and water. Then maybe start with tying her for a little while like they did and see how she does. Your other 2 are going to have to get used to being tied for longer periods of time also. Have you got a place where you can tie all 3 fairly near each other so they can take comfort in just all "being in the same boat?"

I agree with Jan. Let her settle in then tie all 3 side by side if possible. All should be tied with head up so they can't lie down. Start with the new one for 15-20 minutes. Keep building the length of time until they can stand comfortably for 1-2 hours - longer is better. You are turning your cattle out opposite to what you "should" do. The idea is NOT to let them out in the sun. I don't know where you are located, but most programs work with show heifers am & pm, and keep them in during the day. When we have our show string in, they get turned out around 5/6pm and brought in around 6am.
