I know there has been some discussion here about protein tubs, I would like to hear what you look for in a quality tub. I have been buying from Producers, they were out this past weekend so I bought the 30-13 Rangeland with urea in it for $88 for the 225lbs. Im gonna be feeding this rice hay this year so I thought I better get my mineral/protein supplement in line to help them as much as possible.

It should work ok. Just keep an eye on the tubs and see if you're able to calculate consumption once they've eaten them all and see if it's close to what they show on the labels.
 
I sometimes buy a tub brand name smart lic, they can come in handy for supplementing younger stick in winter
 
I spoke with all the feed stores in my area and the only 2 cooked protein tubs I can find are 'Cowtown' at 28% and 'HLS' at 21%.
Anybody have any experience or comments on these?
 
I really like Smart-lic tubs, especially Flax-lic for developing bulls.

Never heard of either. See if you have a Crystalyx of SweetLix Dealer anywhere around. Did you check as Tesky's.??

Think HLS is Hudson from near San Angelo. Cowtown is most likely made by Sweetlix as the Cowtown feedmill is next door to the Sweetlix tub plant in Ft Worth.

Just another 2 cents worth.
 
Oh ok...couldn't find any info on Cowtown but the Hudson site shows taht they do make a 30% tub but I couldn't get the link to open to show any specs on it. Products from either of the companies mentioned should be high quality. "Two Cents" always appreciated.

I know the family that owns the operation. I think they also have a website. The family name is Orwig and they headquarter in Missouri. You can google that and get a history on the family, their aims and their products. The tubs in Texas are made just outside of Waco and are suppose to be as good as any. Get a cooked tub NOT a poured tub.
 
we are feeding the baked lick tubbs from our local co-op at $92 a tubb.the 2 tubbs last 16 to 20 days for 80 to 90hd.an we are also feeding range meal.but they are on a new pasture so its just the tubbs now.

BB that is not nearly enough consumption over tht period of time for that many cattle. 80 head should eat a minimum of 40 lbs. per day...80 lbs. would be better.
 
TB we have some weird cows.some of them dopnt eat lick tubbs or feed just eat hay.they went an checked the pasture that we just turned into 2wks ago an they are cleaning it.
 
I am in Indiana and my cattle are suffering from protein deficiency. Does anyone know if this is reversible? Also any feed back on RangeLand 30-13 Tubs to help with this problem
 
Poured are usually higher in moisture (water) and are softer, and that means a higher consumption rate. Also means more of what you paid your $$ for is just water.
