Seniority!!

A very self-important college freshman at a recent USC football game, took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his own.

"You grew up in a different, actually almost primitive, world," the student said loud enough for the whole crowd to hear.

"We young people today grew up with television, jet planes, space travel, man walking on the moon, our spaceships have visited Mars... We even have nuclear energy, electric and hydrogen cars, computers with light-speed processing .... and uh.."

Taking advantage of a pause for breath in the student's litany, the "wizened" one said, "You're right, Son. We didn't have those things when we were young...so we invented them.. you arrogant little snot nosed punk!! Now.... what are you doing for the next generation??"

;-)

Sounds like a few young people I know, think the world owes them something too. I don't consider myself old, or wise by any stretch, but I was taught to respect others, especially my elders.

I think the freshmans parents need a talkin to. Guessin he didn't learn to talk like that all by himself. Hopefully he learned this time and doesn't make the same mistake at an inappropriate time 8)

I wouldn't count on it.

You know I am not old, Im not young. But kids now a days care only about playing video games or what happend with there friends girlfriends little sister. lol. I blame it on the parents. Most kids now a days dont respect nothing at all. My oldest son lives with his father. The only thing he can talk about is video games and how to do it. He knows nothing of the outside world. and in time it is going to slap him in his face. He wont even see it coming. My youngest son (8) can talk to you just about anything in the world. All though his best thing is animals. ITs all about how there raised and parents dont have the time like they did back in the day. I think we are in for a heck of a wake up call when my kids are grown. its sad really.

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey now.... I do not resemble these remarks in any which way fashion or formulation. I'd also say that Ms. MilkMaid also does not!

im not saying that about country folks at all. They take the time out. But you get around the city people they are hurring to do this that and everything else they put there kids in front of a TV and tell them to hush and watch there movie. I have met so many parents that do that to there kids. Its really sad. Im not picking anyone out not all im just saying most younger people that live in the city. they care more about what some one thinks of them then what there kids are really doing. There was this one mom that because she didnt want to watch her kids she put them out side and let them run the neighborhood. She had no idea what they where doing at all. Till one day i seen them hitting a dog with a bat and laughing about it(these kids where 9 years old) When i told there parents what they were doing. She said well honey i dont have the time to watch what every move they do and slamed the door in my face. the next day they were out doing the same things. thats all i was not tring to make anyone made at all.

I understand what you are saying, and I'm not upset in the least. Well, with the parents that adopt that type of parenting, but that's another story. As far as I'm concerned you're fine. Jake and Milkmaid are not your typical kids by any means. They are both amazing young people, especially considering their ages! ;-) :D

I have to say Every young person i met that has grown up on a farm or even in the country they have there head on right. They know things need done and do it with out asking why. My oldest boy is the worst one of all. When he comes down here to visit (he is indiana lives right in the city) He dont know what to do. i dont let him play video games and he has to help tend to the animals. ( i had then) I asked him to give some hay to the cows he went and took one little hand full and gave them hay. My youngest son looked at him and said now how long do you think it will take them to eat that. My youngest son had to do it. He cant even carry something that ways 10lbs with out yelling about it. but my 2 year old walks around and carries it just fine. He has chores no jobs at home. Just do your homework then stay up till 10pm playing video games. He is gonna have a big slap in the face when he gets older. I keep telling him that but he thinks i dont know what im talking about. He has every new computer psp2 game anything thing that is right off the market he gets it like psp3 he is getting that for xmas. but he has never worked for it. or even get good grades. his father yells at me because when my son comes home with a c im not happy. But he dont understand i dotn want him to have some labor job like his step dad has(construction) so he gets all A's and B's and is really smart. lol my oldest son didnt even know what mate means. its just really sad. and he is my son. but stays with his dad and what ever dad says goes. lol

Well i'm 17 and i'm not sure how old everyone else is but i'm guessing i'm one of the younger ones in this conversation. I grew up in a christian family and my mum died when i was 9 so i've always kinda been on the quiet more submissive side. I know my manners and i NEVER speak back to people older than myself, especially adults. I find it disrespectable and rude and i can't believe the way some youth talk to their parents and other adults.

I live in the township but i live in the country. My brother is 19 and lives on the computer. Wakes up at noon every day and stays on there until 2 in the morning then goes to bed. He's dropped out of uni in his first year and he has no job, no friends and no life. He might as well be a vegetable. As for me... i love the country and everything within it, i'm rarely home and i wish i was a farmers daughter and i WILL have a future in the Ag industry cause i love it. I would clean dirty troughs and i really want to learn to put up a fence! you guys would think that is stupid but it's true!

This is definately the 'lost' generation. There dominated by computers, playstations, game cubes or whatever they're called. If you have kids PLEASE don't let them grow up with too much technology! i don't want anyone to turn out like my brother.

Nicci, I don't believe that Trollett was speaking about anyone in particular. I think she just meant kids in general.

I'm very sorry. No age is good to lose one's mother, but that must have been especially hard for you.

No, I don't think it's a bit stupid. When I was about your age I couldn't wait to pull my first calf, unassisted. It was a great feeling! If your posts that I've seen on here are any indication, I believe you will go far in life! ;-) :D
