Your Local TV Stations

Explanation: With all the bad weather folks get hit with, it would be nice to call up the website of the local TV station in an area and check the weather radar.

For instance, last night was watching the SEC basketball game when the storm hit the arena. If I knew the local stations in Atlanta I could have checked out the radar. (I know I could have found one eventually on the 'puter but there's so much garbage you have to wade through sometimes to find what you're looking for, it just doesn't seem worth it.) Also might help when it comes to checking on each other and planning travel.

Here's the 4 main local stations here in the Middle Tennessee area.

You don't have to give them all in your area, but at least one would be helpful/interesting.

Go to the NOAA ( National weather service ) web site, enter the city, state and you have all the the weather info that you want.
One of my sons drives a long haul 18 wheeler, I look up the weather for him alot.

We always have them on during really bad weather, assuming we still have power. We also have a scanner that allows us to listen to the weather spotters.

I second this one.
My home page is the NOAA site for my zipcode. They are very detailed, and as accurate as any, better than most.

VanC - Thanks, that's exactly the kind of site I was looking for. I like the local channels because they give you the local flavor and if something happens in an area you can go to them instead of being dependent on the national guys giving you a 20 or 30 second sound bite.

What's the best local channel with a good website in your area?

For this area the answer is real simple. There isn;t one. If we were in Springfield or close to it any of the 3 networks would be fine. Being a ways away we're pretty much stuck with radio but even then there is only one local station and during the severe tornado outbreak a couple of months agoo, during the height of it with a tornado on the ground only a couple of miles from us the station went to 15 minutes of music.

Early warning and forcasting is a joke. Plenty of coverage after the storm has passed. That is why I follow the weather forcast on the internet. Keeping an eye on the national radar screen will show you the movement of the storms. It will show the watch and warning boxes just like the local crap shoot station.
