I have a heifer that I bought about a year ago and she just had her first calf in early May. She was about 26 months old when she had her first calf. She was able to have the calf on her own with no trouble. I was out checking on them today and noticed the bull was after her. This is the third different time since she has had the calf that the bull was trying to ride her and staying right with her. I know the bull isn't to blame cause he has breed the other few head I currently have. Any idea as to why she won't breed back?

I have been told my another local farmer that she may not breed back until I ween the calf off her or she may never breed back.

What he said are possibilities. But if she was in heat today and calved in early May the first two heats would have been good for any cow let alone a first calf heifer. I wouldn't get too worried yet, atleast she is cycling. I'm assuming her condition is Ok but this heat can be hard on any cow.

Do you have a good mineral supplement? I had a big cow that never bred back well, and after I started a good loose mineral program designed for my area she did just fine
