have a really young bull , 9 months. wanted to know if there is any down side or problem in putting him in a pasture with 14 heifers, 4 bred , the remaining 9 are young maybe 10-12 months. they are all brahmas if it matters and i am in south alabama- very hot humid.
my thoughts were he will kind of grow into his role and it might be better they are bred at 16-20 months anyway.
but are there risks im ignorant of?

Bos Indicus (Brahma/Zebu) cattle generally are older at the onset of puberty as compared to Bos Taurus (Angus, Hereford, Continental, etc). Would be very unusual for Brahma's to breed at those ages. If they were Simmental, most would probably be bred within 3 months.

Bos Indicus cattle are different in several ways. Behavior, smarter, more cautious, don't like to be driven, need to be worked differently, productive over a much longer life, require different protocols for AI synchronization, and may be more likely to have reactions to some pour-on's. And they sure are pretty to look at.

I concur. Quite a few of the Brahmans and Brahman crosses I’ve had are later maturing and usually don’t breed until they’re around 2. But sometimes they cycle earlier. My biggest concern would be making sure he has adequate groceries so that he reaches his full potential. Good luck. I like brimmers and brimmer crosses
