We had no power from 4:30 am to 6:45 pm and these are pics taken at 8:00 am after I brought them all in from pasture and put feed and bedding out for them.May 24 2007 this is crazy if it's not raining it's snowing. We only got 7 cm's but Brooks AB got 18 cm's.Edmonton was plus 23 and sunny.

Are those calves doing alright?

A/B So far so good with all of mine. However some of the neighbors put their cows and calves out to pasture and don't have the option of bringing them back to where there is shelter and food or they just don't have hay left and that is why they moved them to pasture so soon. With the weather we have been getting nothing is really growing yet ;the moisture is there but not the heat.Needless to say there is alot of bawling going on around here but thankfully as of yet it's not any of mine. And my husband says I spoil them look who's cows and calves are nice and dry now?The fruit trees did not fair so well though.

that contrast is amazing, the calves are little cuties, glad to hear they are in a sheltered barn, and you don't have to go looking for them in the pasture. Hope you get some sunshine soon that lasts....all the best Chris.

ps wish I could send you our perfect weather over, sunshine during the day and rain through the night, at the moment.

A good number of our calves are born on snow in minus 20F and often colder weather.

This is little break in the weather is very unlikely to cause any calves a large amount of grief.

Tougher than many give them credit for.

Shelter is not an option for the vast majority of prairie cattle - they live outside year round and often only have a few old poplar trees, a slab board fence or a coulee for shelter.

Both of those pictures are postcard pictures. Thanks for sharing them. :D

Good pictures. You have my curosity up. The date on the photo with the cattle shows a date of 2006. Is this correct or not.

If I didn't know better, I would swear you live in Texas! I have seen that exact thing happen, only the snow didn't stick, this past April.

Sorry the date is wrong I kept forgetting to reset the date when I would put new batteries in so I just turned it off  .Lady Lisa had a bull calf last year in June and Beauty was only a year old that is her first calf.I posted a couple other pics and had to say the correct date I forgot to say that in this one.The sun is shining today and the snow is melting looks like this is the end of winter(touch wood). The last time we had this was in '02 and we got a heavey snow fall again the end of August. It was kind of nice to get up at 7:00 this morning and still have power. :)
