"Boxed beef cutout values were uneven on moderate demand and offerings. Select
and Choice round cuts were firm. Select rib and loin cuts were firm while Choice
cuts were weak.
Beef trimmings were generally steady on light demand and offerings
."

"Choice - Select Spread" still down at $3.66.

Looks as though consumers are wanting lean beef?

if folk's were'nt opperating on a shoe string budget. and we were at some sort of normalcy, id say it looks that way.......... edited to install missing D in budget :P

Yeah I would say they are buying the cheaper cuts because of budget problems. I agree Alabama.

I am certainly never going to pay more per pound for any label. Apparently, the rest of the public is moving into my camp.

But guys. Some of the Select cuts cost as much or more than the Choice cuts. Chucks, Rounds, and Briskets especially.

And if you'll remember a few weeks back, whole Select carcasses sold for more money than Choice carcasses..........

Think about it.

Seems to me if people were cutting back to those measures, they would be jumping on the Standard and No Roll stuff.

I had a steer go to the big pasture in the sky so I still eat a little beef, but I'm supplementing with road kill. Store bought is just getting too high.

Spam is selling at record levels.

That's true. I saw that Hormel's profits are up and they're putting much of the credit on sales of Spam. A whole new generation gets introduced to Spam. :(

Doesn't quite add up to me. The price of Select is about 3-4 cents per pound on average less than Choice.

That would be a TOTAL of a 15 -20 cent saving on a 5 lb roast. If consumers were convinced that Choice was that much better than Select, I say they'd pay that piddly difference.

And as I said before, some Select cuts are even HIGHER than Choice.

C'mon guys you can do better than that.
