This was the way yesterday went... so if you're wondering why the flow of long winded responses and expositions came to an end this is it.

3:00am - stranger stops at the neighbor to the lease where my boss has a bull and 7 heifers. Says cows on the highway crossed over into the church lot.

4:00am - call from neighbor. Three out in the highway and don't know about the other 5 ... I live 30 miles out but just happened have spent the overnight at the office working on some pressing accounting work.

4:10am - call from my boss..."where are you at?" ... He's in San Antonio watching boy play on a traveling baseball team... I was in the truck headed out to where the cattle are supposed to be.

4:20am - learned that the three on the highway that crossed over haven't been seen since but that three more have been let in with the neighbor's cattle

4:20 - 5:30am - armed with walkie-talkies and a high power flashlight checked fences where accessible and called until hoarse and honked the truck horn until I was sure I had woke all the neighbors. (don't ask... they come to the feed trough when we call and honk) Nothing. Fog was thicker than pea soup so we decided to wait until daylight and hope that either someone sees them and calls animal control or that they show up in the pasture.

6:30am - drive back out to lease. Check hoof prints in church lot and find out that they lead back across the road - these are the same three that the neighbor put in his field.

6:40am - 8:30am drive around subdivisions and other section behind lease. Stop at neighboring subdivision to ask whether roofers have seen a cattle on the loose. Go back into pasture, wade swollen creek and find fence down where tree fell on it. Cross fence into old blueberry patch and start calling again.

8:30am no sign of cattle. Start back to truck ... 1 bull and 4 heifers surrounding truck.

8:40am all penned up in corral munching on some 12%.

8:40 - 10:00am mend fences... found another place along the creek where they got out and go borrow a fence panel not being used to block escape route.

10:00 - 11:30am travel 10 miles to take care of boss' show steers, go through speed trap and get stopped with 3 other cars then go another 15 miles to the mill and pick up a ton of creep feed and 200lb of meal and salt to take to the 25 Cows, 1 Bull and 19 calves at another lease.

11:30 - 12:00pm Stop an orthodontist to pick up papers of Sam's Monday appt.

12:00 - 2:00pm Drive home to pick Joe up for social behavior therapy appt., drop Joe at appt drive out to my lease to check my cattle and back to pick Joe up.

2:00pm - arrive home. Wife cooked up a great meal.

3:00 - 5:30pm - Much needed nap

5:30 - 6:00pm - feed my cattle, mess with show heifer.

6:00 - 8:00pm - Wife drove me 20 miles (I dozed) to check cattle on boss' other lease and fill creep feeder and meal feeder. Found new heifer calf... just as lively as you please.... also found the wild Angus cow had broken through the fence into a neighboring pasture. She was hungry enough though that she came back when I showed up with the meal. Mended that fence.

8:00 - 9:00pm - Wife drove me 30 miles to boss' house to take care of show steers again. I dozed again.

9:00 - 10:00pm - Wife and daughter shopping. Joe and I stayed in the truck... How do you get and 8 year old to quiet down?

10:00 - 11:00pm - Late dinner at Denny's

11:00 - 11:45 - drive home...

Needless to say... I didn't get anything in the office done yesterday except field phone calls from our secretary.

Now I am going to ignore my internet connection the rest of the day so that I can finish three sales tax returns, two income tax returns and 12 months of bookkeeping for a client that lost his bank statements from the 1st 6 months of business and finally asked the bank for copies.

I might finish up by midnight.

wow, i am tired from just reading what all you did..

but look on the bright side... tomorrow has to be better.. ;-)

OK, lets start a thread on how to tree proof fences.

Sorry, you had so many problems.

Aahhh, typical day on the farm circuit eh?

Saturday evening. take ATV to check on cattle notice a bunch of hispanic gentlemen along the outside of my fences cutting trees and clearing land for the development going in behind me... have fixed fences forever as the dozers and other equipment have pushed over trees and uprooted same FROM MYfencelines over the past year or so, including trees I have fence attached too!.......fun times....... kindly asked them to be extra carefull when cutting down trees, especially the wild cherry trees to keep them clear from the fence and away from where the cattle can munch on those leaves......as most of you know they become poisoness as they wilt..........

Late Saturday evening.... go back up to check on the fences and tree situation.......all the workers are gone.....trees across my fence in six places.... NOT small trees..... 3 of them are cherry. Lots of tree tops against the fences. It was easier to erect cattle panels around them that evening then it was to try and cut them up and toss them back over then fix the fences.

All day Sunday-
Yup, you guessed it.........cutting trees, and fixing fences.

Monday morning...sent invoice, along with pleasant explanation for same to the developer. If not paid within 30 days, another invoice with a warning for small claims...........had enuff of being nice guy. I am fixing the problems while they 'hem' me in with housing, and make all the big money...... time for payment don't ya think?

Know where your coming from.

A new sewer line is going in across from my house. They cut two fences one of which was brand new. As he was talking to me about renting one of our houses, I was able to convince him of the error and will be able to get a 20' opening with 2 10' gate on the new fence. The other will be fixed better than new.

I had always planned on that new opening with 2 10' gates on the new cross fence when I planned it out but figured he would do what he did when he got here. Saved me a bunch of money since it was just field fence.

Sorry about your day MBC1.

Sounds like you scored big there WeWild! :) But a sewer in the middle of the country? :?: :cboy:

It's going north about 5 miles to a new manufaturing facility that is being built and picking up a small town along the way.
