While looking thru the classifieds, I came across an ad for yaks. Struck me kinda funny. I didn't know there was any in the country outside of zoos. These are halter broke and it said they make good crosses. ?????

Live and learn!! ;-)

Wonder if there would be a market for all that hair?

And I guess you bought em?

They are miserable to be around and work. I worked for a big ranch that used a Yak bull in a crossbreeding deal trying to come up with cows that could get by on less winter feed. Cows got by on less but the calves they had were pretty sorry. The cows were hard to wean from the calves, would and could jump anything. The old Yak bull killed at least two horses. They are nothing but bad news in my opinion.

Here's a pic of the fuzzy critter;

She's a registered Red Angus - a Prime Rib daughter.

that is a fine looking female. it's good to see a full quarter on a British type cow.

A couple of times I've seen a bucking bull at rodeos around here that was supposedly half yak. I believe that he was cause he looked pretty goofy - slanted back with a funny looking tail. I think they called him "Kodiak Yak Attack"
