Hi everybody. I'm a writer, currently working on a tale set in 18th century Pennsylvania. I have two characters getting ready to head into what was then the "frontier" -- the ridge/valley region of PA. This mean traversing some high, rocky ridges and several rivers. Because we writers like to torture our characters, I'd like to give my characters' ox some serious health issues to make the trip more challenging.
Can anybody give me ideas for giving my ox a health issue that would make him look like a lost cause? I was thinking that if they procured the ox BECAUSE he was sick, it'd be even better. Maybe they see him for sale and know his condition is fixable? As a cattle dummy, I have no idea what that would be. I'm hoping someone here might have some good ideas.
Thanks for any help you're willing to offer!
