I have a couple of calves, whose ears have started wrinkling or rolling up from the bottom. I looked at them up close, and where it is wrinkled up the skin is flaky. One calf has it on both ears and another has it on only one. The other calf in the pen is fine. Does anyone know what this is or how to cure it? Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks for the answers

Bobby22, It got down to 3 degrees with a windchill of -5, a few weeks ago for like 2 days but thats the last cold spell we've had. Would that cause them to wrinkle up like that?

Dun, I don't think these calves have lice because i looked real close. they have also been vaccinated because they did have ticks in their ears this summer.

Hadn't thought of frost bite in TX, but I suppose it;s possible if they had their ears licked or sucked on by another calf or were wet for some reason. Lice are insidious little boogers. Look for little yellow posts on the ear hairs. If you have lice they will generally lay their eggs there and you can see them.
