Never seen them advertised for deer plots but a company up around the Tex/Okla border makes them and fills them with wild flower seeds. The work well.

Ridiculous to think that anyone would buy that stuff. The craziest thing I've seen is that stuff they call lab lab. I was planting food plots for a deer club and they bought some of it for me to plant. It was something like $40 for 5 lbs of seed and they bought $400 worth of it. I planted it and it looked just like kudzu. Fortunately, the deer ate it to smithereens and none of it survived.

Yea its crazy what some people do.

It doesn't make any sense to me to plant something deer are going to eat into oblivion as soon as it sprouts. Rye, ryegrass, oats, and wheat are what works.

Lab lab is actually a great choice for food plots, but that price is outrageous. And as you mentioned, if it’s not protected for a while the deer will wipe it out. (It’s an annual legume, so it’s not like kudzu in that respect) Not to say cereal grains don’t work, but around here they don’t get near the deer traffic as other plants.
Still, I can’t get past $8/pound! I can’t believe people pay that. That’s almost as bad as the local co-op selling purple top turnips for $6/pound. I can buy them online for $1.50 and have them mailed for less than half of the local cost.

The problem here is too many deer. Cereal grains are the only thing they won't eat to death. Right on the lab lab, it's an annual. I planted some in my garden, which is protected from deer, just to see what it would do because it never had a chance exposed to the deer population here. It grew a big vine like kudzu and the leaves looked like kudzu. I let it grow for a long time to see if it would make seed but it never did. Maybe it's sterile? Did yours ever make seed? I have no doubt it would be a great attractant to deer if it could be established.

turnip seeds are high at southern states too but thats where i get my seeds from. I put buckoats kale and clover in my food plots.

I have pretty high deer densities here too, so I've not planted any lab lab. I have a buddy that tried it, but had the same results. The deer wiped it out. I'd love to plant an acre or two of it, but just don't want to spend that much on electric fence.

Our local co-op is Southern States too, come to think of it. At least it's not just the local guys here jacking up the price, but it's still ridiculous. I found a website a couple years ago that carries a lot of different brassicas for very reasonable prices. If I can find the name again I'll post a link. I ran late getting seed this year so I just bought "buck-on-the-bag" seeds from TCS since I only planted 1/2 acre.
