How often do you worm ? Do you routinly worm or wait till you see signs that you have them? When you do treat for worms, What do you use ? I'm new and learning so all suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

We worm every Fall and Spring with either Ivomec, or Cydectin. Dont wait for problems,it's preventative maintainance like changing motor oil. Any new Cattle are wormed and given meds. upon arrival.

Ussually do the Ivomec after spring green up. Mid summer do the safeguard and fall Cydectin. Read an article in Drovers about the combination of Cydectin or Ivermectin mixed with the phenbendazole. you might check it out. Tried it on some of my new cows.

There are MANY different kinds (brands ) of dewormers - two types - one gets only internal parasites and the other gets internal AND external (including GRUBS).
Unless you know the history of your cattle, YOU SHOULD NEVER use a dewormer that gets GRUBS in the spring/summer. If your cattle had grubs migrating thru their body, you COULD KILL YOUR CATTLE. Timing depends on your specific area.
Here in NY, we cannot de-grub after mid Nov.
I have used Safeguard in spring/summer and Dectomax or Ivomectin products in fall.
Do not wait for SYMTOMS - preventative treatment is advised. We wait until cows have been on grass for 4 weeks before we do spring deworming. And fall deworm close to first of November. We deworm calves in summer 8 wks after on grass and again in fall.
There are injectables and pour-ons. Some pour-ons need dry weather for 6 hours, some injectables sting like the dickings!

Would that knowledge stem from having gotten stuck yourself?

I'm good to go Dun. I vaccinated myself last time. Didn't sting either but it bled a lot.

I have changed to Valbazen in the fall and Ivomec in the spring. Man some of those cows need some Listerine.
