Hi all. Calf we have is doing just fine. Called vet and she said no vacinnations are necessary in PA. Just love him and feed him. I got to thinking though shouldn't he be wormed or something. First cow of any kind ( other than Rocky lost to scours last week) on this property for at least 30 years. He's about a month old now. Guestamate. Lost umbilical right after we got him and he.s been with us three weeks now. Loves his bottle , eats calf pellets fine. drinks water fine. Little bugger will only eat grass or hay if I shove it into his mouth. Is worming issue only if one wants to or is it a good preventative. Yes I probably go and read it in a book or just drive into the local agway(yeah right at $3.00 a gallon) and quiz them, but I feel there is a whole lot more information I could acquire at this web site. Appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanks

Did the vet say no vaccinations are necessary for a calf his age or no vaccinations are necessary at all...ever?

Vets here tell us that no vaccinations are necessary for baby calves 'cause they've received immunity thru the colostrum. However, a lot of the holstein baby bull calves, as well as other breeds of baby calves bought at auction, I imagine, haven't had the benefit of colostrum. Did your calf get colostrum?

It's just me, but I think I'd ask another vet about that.
