Working pen improvement?

Well it's that time of year again. Time to clean up the yard and get ready for spring. We have an above ground swimming pool that the liner has decomposed on. The kids show no interest anymore and I am tired of being the only one taking care of it. So I decided it was time for it to go. It is 33 feet across so that gives me about 100 feet of sheet metal, 4 1/2 feet tall, to dispose of. Last night the light in my brain went off. I think I will take it to the farm and line my working pens with it. The crowding pens and chutes. The metal is thin but should not be a problem as there is plenty of oil field pipe to support it.
What do you think?
 
I'd cut it and put it on my sorting gates and maybe line my Chute with it if it was not lined all ready, but I'd leave it off the sides of my pen just in case I had to make a quick exit. ;-)
 
I agree, I would start in the crowding area. That is one place I never get in with them.
On the back side of the crowding gate I have a piece of pipe that drags along the ground, hindged at the top, so the cows cannot push back on me.
 
Hey we did kind of the same thing here. Go for it but just know when the wind hits it, it will rattle and make alot of noise and may spook the cattle depending on what your region is like. We have ours rolled up till we find a use for it (i.e. stop being lazy :lol2: )

Good point. I will probably have to spot weld it quite a bit throughout the panel.

I thought about that a couple of years ago during drought. The pool held 24,000 gallons. The liner cost over $3000.00. The biggest problem would be hauling it to pasture. Using it at home is an option, but then you have to add the cost of piping, filtration etc. The pay out would not have been in what is left in my lifetime.
 
$3000 for a new liner? Man, that seems high. Is this a regular above ground pool? Nothing here over $400 (plus shipping) http://www.poolstore.com/store1/welcome.html

I know of someone who has several of these set up for water storage and they toss barley straw in them to control algae - I don't know if that really works or not but we used to have a huge open top steel storage (65,000 gal) and we would muck the bottom out every few years - it never got too bad. Now it it IS my pool yard - have a 24 footer set up inside the old tank.
