There was a thread a little while ago about working behind a cow and I was confirming the pregnancies in my cows today so I did a short video showing how the back gates of my crush works. My setup is homemade, built a bit light and a bit rough but works well with my cows. I would prefer a parallel closing headgate but I adapted what was here when I bought the place 12 years ago and haven't got around to changing. This general setup of the crush would be similar in the majority of Australian situations though most would be a bit flasher, a lot worse also.

Ken,

Looks good. Does your crush have a squeeze function? Doesn't look like it.

Ron, no but never been an issue though I am sure if I had that function I would use it especially for freeze branding. I use the hook in their mouth when branding and it does a good job keeping them still. Small calves I will often squeeze up by moving the side gate up against them.
