Anyone have any tips/words of advice for showing at Louisville? I'm thinking about doing it but wondering about tie-outs, setting up stalls, etc. Anyone offering any advice is greatly appreciated. I believe the deadline (atleast in 2007) was Oct. 1. I've ordered a premium book and made hotel reservations but thats as far as I've gotten. We've only shown county so this would be a huge step for us. Thanks for anyone's input....

We've been during our Junior National show. So I can not tell you about the NAILE. But the facilities are great. Are you going to be traveling with seasoned veterans? Thats the way we used like to travel when our kids were doing the circuit.

Our "seasoned veterans" are Shorthorn breeders and will be home by the time we go down. But, we're going to see if we can take their son back down with us. I read some old posts that said the tie-outs were horrible (really PACKED) so most everyone ties to their trailers (which I'll need to add rings). At the county shows we do our own tie-outs (t-posts and a gate) does NAILE provide the tie outs? Are you assigned a stall? We always double-tie (use neck ropes) but does someone sell one long enough that at the trailer they can still lie down? The ones we have arent that long. We have 3 endgates.. usually use two for the cattle and the extra one for our tack... is this allowable down there? Where do you do your grooming? Was going to do it all at home but would I do touch-ups in the stall or is there an area for grooming? Do I have to have all my shavings or can they be bought down there... if they're expensive I'll just take my own but would like to save some space in the trailer if possible. I'm assuming as the arenas are all inside/conditioned spaces that fans aren't needed like they are at summer shows? So many questions....Thanks for any info...

packed, and if it rains then a section becomes unuseable

at least half are tied to trailers

In their tieout area, yes
Are you assigned a stall?
are you talking inside, or tieouts? Inside is handled by each breed association. Tieouts are first come, first served
We always double-tie (use neck ropes) but does someone sell one long enough that at the trailer they can still lie down? The ones we have arent that long.
What's the difference between tieing at a trailer and tieing at a gate?

Shouldn't be a problem.
Where do you do your grooming? Was going to do it all at home but would I do touch-ups in the stall or is there an area for grooming?
You can do it in the stall, or take your own grooming chute and place in the aisle the day of the show. I think it costs $20 for the chute, we don't take one so I'm not sure on the cost.
Do I have to have all my shavings or can they be bought down there... if they're expensive I'll just take my own but would like to save some space in the trailer if possible.
Bedding of all sorts is available, at a cost of course.

Some people still run their fans. We generally don't since there are enough people who do that the air movement is nice, and the building is temp controlled.

Our advice would be GET THEIR EARLY, as early as possible on the first day your breed can arrive, because the ties are first come...so is trailer parking. That lot fills up quickly because people take up two and three parking spots with the pens they make to tie out their animals. I did get a little pissed but after seeing the tie outs I understand. I can't believe that a show of this size has so little room to tie out cattle. Take some kind of sign or marker to "claim" your spot at ties. Sometimes duct tape and a good marker works. They are also correct in saying ties can become a real lake if there is much rain!

Other than that it is a good show but take warm clothes it got real chilly in the barn last year. I was buying thicker socks from the Carhart vendor.

Our breed is housed in Broadbent arena and we don't tie out. We show in the Broadbent arena also. Find out where you will be, seems like the Murray Greys were in Broadbent in the past, I think it depends on how many of your breed are enrolled??
If you can bring your own shavings, do so as they are pricey there.
