My grandson is a Marine and when I ask him what he wanted for Christmas. He replied wool sox. I guess what Uncle Sam is providing is not up to par. He probably needs warm weather ones (blended?) as well as cold as he is an infantry man and their unit has to be able to travel anywhere in 48hrs.

Obviously they need to be made in the US. Summer ones are probably used most as he is stationed in 29 Palms.

Anything you used, stand out for durability and comfort?

Thanks

The wool socks they issued me were plenty warm in North Carolina but worked fine for me in SE Asia as well.
But then, I'm getting close to being Old Corps.

You can still find them on eBay.

My feet get cold when the temp gets lower than 20 if I'm standing around a lot. I did the stupid thing and bought $20/pair smartwool socks. Now I can't wear anything else... I would suggest the line made for hiking.

I did see bass pro has some for around $12? And if you ever wear them out you can return them for new ones. Could be a pretty good deal.

+1 on the Smartwool socks. They’re worth every penny. I’d take 1 pair of Smartwool over 10 pairs of the crap I was issued from Uncle Sam. It’s like comparing an old 6v flashlight to a new 1200 lumen... Danner also carries nice wool and blended socks. I’d recommend a hiking sock. Get a few pairs and keep one for yourself!
