One of my sons has a small flock of sheep. They sheared the sheep prior to lambing and he said the wool is worthless and is going to dump it in a woods on his land. Is it truly worthless? Just curious or if you have enough sheep does it have some value?

I had sheep about 12 or 15 years ago and it was pretty much worthless then didn’t pay the shearing fee was just had to be glad to get the wool off of them. We usually 60-70 head to shear of mainly Suffolk and Suffolk Dorset cross so they didn’t have a lot of wool in comparison to the quantity and quality of some of the more wool breeds. From my understanding great pains had to be taken with the wool to keep it clean and in good shape for even the better to be worth much. If I were ever going to get into sheep again it would be hair sheep and not have them deal with the shearing.
