Built some to go around my pond using Ducks Unlimited plans--what time of the year should I put them up here in East Texas?
My plan is to mount them on 8' tee posts instead of on trees--posts should keep some of the predators out--maybe. Will this work?

I don't know about Texas, but I'd put them out now. I have some mounted on galvanized pipe about 6-8 ft out from the shore of the pond. That's the best way to keep the predators away. Craig

Well, guess I better get them out this weekend while the weather is decent. Thanks!

cowmilker, I've tried driving posts from a boat before---I'll not make that mistake again........

My posts are only a couple of feet from the bank. I pushed them in using the loader on the tractor. Only problem is I can;t clean them easily and the hornets took over the nest boxes.

I made one of the sides in 2 pieces, with the lower 1/2 a hinged door.
Red wasps and yellow jackets will probably take over mine too--they took over most of the bluebird houses I built.

Do the cows mess with the posts much? They're always looking for something new to scratch and rub on......

Cows screwed with mine.
Put one in 12 foot deep water and a hen nested a couple years the the red wasp found it.
Sure is amazing to see a duck doing about 70 mph hit that hole and not come out the back side.

Hinge on the bottom with a latch or a screw then they are easy to clean out.
Easy to clean if #1 I didn;t mind wasps and #2 the water wasn;t so deep.

Tip for yall on the hornets, wasps, and yellow jackets. Ask your local chemical dealer about Tempo SC or Taurus. I prefer the Tempo SC. It comes in a small bottle and I can't remember the ounces. But I mix one bottle to 25 gallons of water. Adjust this mixing rate to a two gallon sprayer and spray your wood duck boxes with this twice a year. Easy to do and you wont have any insect problems then.
