Are they still in business? Their website has been down for months now. I always enjoyed their site.

Is anyone in the know?

As you probably already know....this is a link to the 4.6 frame bull on his web site in which the author highly touts. If you haven't seen the pedigree, check it out...the bull's grandfather traces 100% of each branch. This bull is where 517, 3008, etc. originates. Also note that out of 108 calves of his sire, the WW and YW were sub par.

I'm not exactly sure what 108 calves you're looking at, progeny of the bull you listed? If you are looking at the EPD's and saying they are sub par based on today's standard, then yes you are right. But you should compare them with what was calculated as standard for there contemporaries. I compared the bull you linked with all other animals born the same year and he had pretty good performance.

The bull's sire shows 1008 calves which were being referenced.

My definition of par in this context is like a financial debt instrument with 100 being par....PDF file link is here:

Notice the sire of the bull is documented as having 108 calves of which twenth-three had sub-par WW & two had sub-par YW in the performance pedigree.

Thanks Herefordsire, I was aware of the Prospector bull and his pedigree, but didn't know his frame size. I've only just now figured out where you've got it from. This means i'll have to look up quite alot of old bulls now!

Thanks for the link, I didn't click on the performance pedigree the first time.

Stonegate,

if you click on performance pedigree and scroll down to the actual data and ratios you'll find the individual framescore, that of his progeny and the same goes for the sire and dam.

I've checked the framescore of Feltons 517 (6.6) and most of his noteworthy progeny (5.7-7.2) and also went back in the pedigrees to the Prospector bull and found it surprizing how many framescores in the range of 4.5-5 there was between 1967 and 1986. I would have thought the framescores would start lower and dramatically increased, but it stayed the same till 1986. Surely that wasn't typical of the breed?

Or was that just the case in the linebred Prospectors?

You are very welcome. By the way did you see anything else interesting on the web site? Another item that caught my attention is the Keynote 20X bull. Did you see that reference? Another one was how the 3008 bull was recently used which was news to me.

Thank-you for posting the address as I was looking for it the other day and couldn't find it. I sure would enjoy reading some more of his stuff. If I remember correctly there is semen available still on that bull. Did you read that also?[/b]

I don't know, but have you ever seen a bull have the same great grandsire four different ways?
