So, did you ever get it out ? :lol2:

Thank you! Finally won one - and without even putting a flag on it! ;-)

My dearly beloved was preparing to put a culvert in across a boggy mini-stream, to create a new gateway and things got softer than he expected before he thought they would! It didn't take him very long to get it out - used a snig chain through one of the rear wheels attached to a big tree behind, then drove very slowly backwards, because the chain tightens into the tyre in a potentially damaging manner, but if you're careful, you can pull yourself out. He's a big, practical guy, so very little phases him.

There are a few pictures of the job here (monitors were smaller in 2003, so the pictures are small now). If you spot my skinny cows anywhere on that site, be kind: I didn't know anything when I started and have learned a lot along the way. :)

Thanks very much for the link to your pictures. I think the idea for the culvert from used tires is the neatest ''trick'' I have seen for a long time!!!

Our fert spreader says he doesn't like them though, so I'd guess they're not great for heavy machinery. That particular crossing has never worked properly; I'm not sure if it's because of the tires or because of the way the water seeps down from the slope upstream. But they did enough good for enough years when we didn't have enough money to buy something better! Now it's just a case of prioritizing that job to get in and replace them with a proper culvert pipe. Too busy this summer with the new tractor fencing off a big wetland. :)
