What is that--17 different pieces of plumbing to get water from ground level to flow in the tank?
That's gotta be a record of some kind for that short distance--and not a valve in sight.

Thanks everybody! It's a spring. That pipe has been there probably 75 years or or longer. I talked to an old timer (85 yrs old) that used to work for my grandfather last week and asked if he knew when that pipe was put there and he said it was already there when he was a boy. My grandfather put that syrup kettle there to hold water for his cows to drink.

It had a lot of fallen tree leaves and other muck in it and I cleaned it out- that's that black stuff on the ground in front of it. Then I got tired of waiting on it to fill back to overflowing and took the picture as you see it- just short of brimming over. Great question, I wondered if anyone would notice that!
